We dropped in on a First Friday. Cool creepy decor in a dark pub atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Never seeming pushy or insensere. Interesting beers on tap for a good price and a nice range of food available with an equally wide range of prices. The food itself was ok. We ordered a Veggie Burger which was a bit odd in texture, but that might have been the point. Not too much in the taste department. We also had a chicken quesadilla which had alot of flavor- just the wrong kind. It tasted like a pizza for some reason. I feel like I should have ordered the burger. They also had a selection of higher end food up to the twenty range, but we did't try threm. Great place for a drink for sure. I guess I'll try the stuff I missed when we go in next time.

I kept hearing The Box coming up as this sultry, unforgettable experience, so one night my sister and I went with some friends who had the hookup to check it out. As far as the decorum goes, it was a pretty cute space...not mind boggling, but I appreciate the bordello influence, velvet curtains, and wrap around balcony. What this place had in decor it seemed to lack in direct proportion as far as the crowd went. Chhhheeeesssyyyyy . NYU in the house! New Jersey in the house! Long Island in the house! It was a fuckin frat party. Obnoxious noisy people in $300 jeans with spray on tans. Gross. And guess what? The music was all of their favorite top 40 jams! Which made them louder. And more obnoxious... But I was not there for the crowd, no...I was there for the show, and quite relieved was I when the lights finally went low, and a momentary hush seemed to fall over the room. Now I am fairly well versed in burlesque, stripping, the circus and things of the like, and while there were some gleaming moments, (Raven O naked with a cock ring and devil horns on dolo) for the most part the show was really disappointing. The female dancers we're poorly styled, (as were the cocktail waitresses) and the choreography was unexpressive and cliche. The dancers were completely forgettable, and seemed more interested in trite shock value than in the tease. (As exemplified by a boring stunt where a gal dancer in army fatigues by Leg Avenue simulates fucking Bush and Cheney. Or was it Obama? Can't remember. That's the point). There was one really incredible performer in the set though, who deserves 5 stars on her own. I've seen her one other time at the Zipper Club as part of a burlesque review, but I can't remember this bitches name. She is ethereal, and sings in the most haunting falsetto . Her style is an extension of her art, not in competition of it or overcompensating for it, which shows her multidimensionality and rounded awareness of the stage. (I will update this when I figure out her name...) I never understand places that drop all of this dough into creating an interesting space, only to confuse it's identity with generic music, cliche shows, and an embarrassingly tacky crowd. Unless you're impressed by that sort of thing, Box sucks.

I threw my engagement party here last weekend and it was perfect!  From the capacity (150) to the food (asian fusion tapas style for the evening) to the drinks (they now can make a good side car, but be sure to ask for cointreau instead of triple sec) to the sound system to the fabulous lounge decor (pink lit chandeliers, loungey type booths and tables and a place to hang your coat) to the dance floor. The chef, Gabriel, is a master of taste bud exploding food.  The mushroom pizza...YUM...the butternut squash and bacon pizza...double YUM...definitely try the food! The bartenders, Moe and Hana, were super amazing, attentive, chill and efficient. Though they could use a bit of polish on the hosting side (like a coordinator), the event went off without a hitch (pun intended).  The owners (in deference to full disclosure I must admit I am friends with them) were gracious and attentive and had it dialed in the night of the party. I would highly recommend The Triple Crown for a private party (especially if you have numbers around 100-150). I cannot speak to the daily operating of the bar/lounge, but I would venture to say it is just as capable and fun all other times! Check it out!
