N and I had a 5:30 reservation on Saturday. We were early and they were not serving yet, so it was perfect opportunity to enjoy a cocktail on the sky terrace, and we did enjoy our cocktails. We both had a Pear lemon drop. It was the perfect blend of pear brandy, Champagne, and fresh lemon juice. I enjoyed the 360 degree view and as I sat looking out over the city I wondered if my 19th and early 20th ancestors, who had businesses very near this restaurant, would recognize the Mission District and the city that they loved as it is today. The dinner started out with a plate of olives and a wonderful creamy cheese. The waitress came and after she told us the specials she said "I really don't have any time to spend with you, I have other tables" as she walked off she mentioned some like they suggest we order a plate and 1/2. I assumed she meant per person but it was only a guess. To ponder the menu we ordered another cocktail and the charming fellow who waited on us on the terrace took care of our order. The witch came back to take our order and when we ordered the Moroccan Chicken B'stilla with Cinnamon and Almonds. She said, "A little birdie told her they were out of it." How could that be? We were the first people to sit down and the people at the other table were seated after we were. We shared the following dishes: Four Seared Sea Scallops, Forage Mushrooms, Dungeness crab Hollandaise, with Watercress. This was my favorite dish of the night but with only two scallops each, there was not enough to really savor. Fried Sumac-Dusted Calamari, Red Onions and Lemons with Aioli: The calamari was filling and despite the sumac it was not very unusually Lamb and Fig Tagine was very tasty but I was to full of Calamari to enjoy it

This was my first visit to a "club." I just never really envisioned it as my type of place, and I still don't...however, Opera definitely made for a great Saturday night! There were some creepy guys, but the left my friends and I alone after we told them to back off. We had an awesome time dancing, and the drinks are pretty strong. $8 for a vodka/tonic, which isn't too bad considering, like I said, how strong it was. It was 80s night, which was pretty funny...they had a really good 80s band that played stuff from Journey, Pat Benetar, Salt n' Peppa, etc. Each time they took a break, the dj did his thing with hip hop remixes, which was fun. The layout is also really neat. It's nice to be able to get in free, too - you just go to their website, go to the left hand side where it says "friday and saturday guest list sign up" and fill out a couple questions and print out the email that follows. Then you bring that with you and get in free before 11 (for ladies, of course). Guys get a discount if they do that.

This place is pretty surreal. They blared heavy metal, slung dirty cheap beer from behind a filthy counter whilst an assortment of entertainers danced on the stage. When I was here they had one dancer that I'm pretty sure was a she-male, another that was an art student with hairy legs and hairy pitts, another that was straight out of Gummo, and the final that was I swear the girl from Welcome to the Dollhouse. Anyway, the next time I'm in Atlanta I'm going back. Supposedly there's also a hotel upstairs, Christ himself couldn't make me spend a night there.
