by Emilio Birdette on The serves deserves a 4.5, the food was a 1.5. The space was formerly Levende Lounge, and they didn't seem to change a thing about the decor. We were there too early for music, but I would be willing to go back for jazz and drinks. Our server was friendly and happily made food suggestions. We ordered the crab ravioli with garlic cream sauce (BORING!), coffee crusted pork loin (over powering, couldn't even finish it) and the scallops (best of the three). The sides were uninspired. In the end, we ventured out to another restaurant to order another round of food.
by Meredith P. on I went a few Fridays ago and I have to say that the 4 stars is a 3 1/2 rounded up....I'll break it down for you What: This bar's location is apparently the sight of the first bar downtown which at one point was a Brothel...hence the name of the bar. It's well known for its Burlesque shows. The Pros: 1) the Decor is amazing, who doesn't love black chandeliers with pink lightbulbs? 2) the DJ spins great music- expect a mix of the Killers, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand and the latest indie anthem, no Lil' Wayne or Luda here 3) the Crowd is an eclectic mix of people. Come looking sharp but no need to overdress like you're going to WeHo or Hollywood, it's much more relaxed. The Cons 1) The door lady....she was a bitch 2) the cover... what can I say I rarely pay cover, I believe it was 15 on Friday but we talked her down to 10 3) the Burlesque...left a lot to be desired. I'm no expert but the performers we saw were pretty bad. I'm sure their main show which I believe is on Wednesday nights is much better but whatever they got goin on Friday isn't much of a show So if you're looking for a non-pretentious bar where you can have a moderately priced drink and dance to some indie rock, it's a good place to go, but if you're looking for a high quality performance or no cover it's a pass.
by Derek Stvil on We went here on the way to a dance class downtown. When you first walk in you are hit with the "hipness" of the place. Servers in black shirts, coifed hair and an air of snobbishness (nothing wrong with that BTW). We sat at the bar and looked over the menu. She ordered the lamb-burger and I had the cuban burger and we ordered a side of sweet potato tots to share. The burgers came out in nice, eco-friendly, paperboard containers and we took off to make our lesson time. She ate hers on the way there and, after stealing a bite, I have to admit it was quite good. Cooked just right and quite flavorful. I think there were a few "oh my gods" in there as well. I quickly opened mine up and began scarfing it down. It was good, but not quite as good as the lamb burger. Also, with all the toppings on mine, I could barely wrap my teeth around it so that made it uber-messy. The sweet potato tots were either really greasy or just got cold but they werent all that great in my mind. I'm sure if I had them hot and wasnt stuffing them into my mouth they might have been better. I want to go back and sit down and try this place to see if it would gain another star, but for the most part, I would recommend giving this place a shot as we both enjoyed the quick "take-out" we had.
