If you want to FEEL the music, don't go here. My friend and I went to see one of our favorite live acts Bilal at the Blue Note last night, and despite the intimately small space, if you buy "bar" tickets (that night bar tickets were $20 each, with one drink min), you have to stay in this tiny roped in bar area by the door. We weren't even sure it was him who came out til he started really getting down, cause we were so far from him. We started searching our purses for the binoculars we used last week for our cheap seats at the Nutcracker. This factory is there strictly to make money, not to be an enriching musical venue.

I enjoy the sheer space of the venue, especially if there's a really popular dance night; I usually go here for New Wave City (but that's another review). The bottom floor is huge, with sitting spaces to the side. The stage is fun to dance on - again lots of space - but I can't imagine a show there; it's just too damn high! The second floor "back room", along with its sitting area, is a nice refuge. You can get close and sweaty to your dancing club fiends. These spaces allow for people to flow between rooms. If people watching is your thing, you can just stare at the dancing people from the second floor balcony. What I find interesting are the the computer kiosks placed around the area. Along with the flickering televisions, hidden cameras, and all-black decor, it adds a bit of seediness and voyeurism to the club's dark den of technology vibe. They do cater to an "alternative" sub-culture club scene, whether it be death metal / mash-up / goth / burlesque / rave, so it seems only appropriate. (side story: someone searched out NWC pics on flickr at the kiosk, left up the page they were viewing, and lo and behold, pics of me were up on the screen. WEIRD!). As for the drinks, the lady bartender on the second floor seriously makes strong drinks. Downside is that they're a bit pricey though. The bathrooms, especially the ladies' downstairs bathroom, leave much to be desired. Unless you enjoy cold metal toilets. When they work.
