by Hazel A. on I haven't been around the clubbing/lounge scene a lot. Whether it be here or in L.A. or even in Vegas. I'm pretty inexperienced at venues like these. This place wasn't super packed which I thought was cool. But like Clarisse C. said, the lighting was a little bright for a nightclub. The music was pretty cool, people were weird. The bartender seemed to be a bit douchey. Just because we took a few minutes to think about what we wanted he gave us this crazy look and threw his hands up like, "wtf?" Dude you weren't even crazy busy to be impatient with you. You should've been happy we were ordering drinks to begin with. The drinks were ok, a bit stiffer than what I'm used to, but hey i'll deal. Parking can be hard if you're not lucky, unless that lot next to them is theirs..then maybe not (unless you have to pay). Being the architecture major/nerd that I am. I have to admit I really liked what they did to the interior. Although that singular beam that is load bearing of the 2nd floor DJ area seemed a bit strange..just a huge beam that spanned across to support what seemed to be a catwalk seemed out of place. Liked the wood paneling, not a fan of the bathroom like floors, but I was totally digging the glass display behind the bar that housed the alcohol. Not sure if I'll be back or not, that really depends on my group of friends.
by Yen Ardolino on I live in San Jose, so I'm always prepared to pay way to much for drinks in the city, but sometimes a bill is actually worth the money. The Bubble Lounge is in a pretty good part of North Beach, sure there's no parking and I had to circle around for quite a bit to find a spot. But the area is fine and I didn't mind walking. The outside is rather plain, something you'd probably walk by if you didn't know it was your destination. On a Friday the bouncers were pretty intense, but I guess they have to be, but I'm still always put off by it. There wasn't a cover and I was soon in around 10ish without a wait. It's an intimate type of place. Complete with low lighting, red accents, big sofas and of course a champagne theme. Of course to sit upstairs you have to reserve a table/couch with a minimum purchase but we didn't chose that. Instead I ordered a champagne cocktail for $12 which was tasty. A a sweeter Italian Prosecco with chambourd - yum. The bartender was nice, friendly and quick. Walking around another bouncer was near some stairs and he was so intense he made me feel like I was doing something wrong or something. The bouncers alone made me take a star off, well along with the costliness of the drinks. Downstairs was definately cave like, but the seating is free. There's a private room off of the small dance floor and certaintly everyone was shaking it. But god it was sooooooooo hot! I couldn't dance for that long because I was completely overheated and well the mixing by the DJ wasn't that great. Overall I liked the colors and theme, I wasn't put off by anyone around (except the bouncers), drinks were tasty but overpriced but the whole place had a mellow/swanky vibe and really, that's my kind of place.
