On a Wednesday night, we jumped onto the BART from Powell to Mission/16th. After we ascended up the escalator, we were pleasantly greeted with a ton of bums. Ignoring the stench and in fear of being mugged, needless to say, we hurried along to Coda with our hands held tight. As we entered Coda, I thought to myself, this place looks awesome! It's sleek, dark decor set the mood for the evening. We both ordered salads: Broccoli rabe salad ($7.50) and the brussel sprout salad ($8.50). The brussel sprout salad, hands-down, is the best salad I've had in a long time. It's hard finding salads that go beyond the typical lettuce or spinach blahness. This salad came warm and had a great dressing. The broccoli rabe was good, but not that great. It was rather on the simple side. We also ordered Wagyu burgers ($11.50 each since we added toppings): One had the cheddar and bacon toppings and the other had the bleu cheese and mushrooms combo. Both burgers had its own distinct taste and the burger meat itself had a simple taste. I ordered my burger medium rare and whoever cooked my burger did a fantastic job!! It's hard to find a place that actually understand what "rare" means. The shoestring-like truffle french fries were superb! You order this as a side, but you can share this with 2 - 3 people. Unfortunately, I don't remember the cocktails we ordered and we didn't order desserts since we were stuffed. B3 was featuring Oscar Myer for the evening. No bologna, the man led the pack into jazz ecstasy. The band chimed in at the right times and didn't sound offbeat at all. Overall, Coda is a great place to hang for food, drinks, and music. I would definitely come to Coda again when I'm in town.

I heart Ecco. It has all the components of what a top-notch establishment should posses: a big & beautiful dining room, a spacious & inviting bar, a great group/private party room in the back of the dining room, outstanding service, remarkable food, tasty drinks, fabulous wine list...I could go on and on. I love starting off with a meat and cheese platter. It's really a great deal! One for $4.75, three for $14, or five for $22. My favorites? Prosciutto di Parma, Speck, Saucisson Sec, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Ricotta....YUM. Perfection. Next, on to the Fried Goat Cheese balls with honey and black pepper...I'm sure you've heard about them. Those little babies are phenomenal. The Meatballs with saffron and almond sauce are another excellent option if I'm totally starved...I could sit and gorge on those alone if I had the chance. Pizzas are always good and never let me down, however that's not the reason I go to Ecco. I'd much rather prefer to get one of the dishes from the Mains section of the menu. Favorites as of right now include the Grilled Petite Tender and the Grilled Trout....nom nom nom nom. You really can't go wrong with any selection to be honest though...everything is rich in flavor, plentiful, and just down right good. Ask your server for some recommendations for wine pairings, they know their stuff and are always more than happy to assist. Be sure to make reservations (for any night!!) and if you have to wait for your table, grab a cocktail at the bar - those boys are good at what they do! Talk about some dangerously delicious cocktails to start off your evening...
