by Jim L. on A very attentive staff awaits your business. I think my favorite sub-staff were the valets. While working in the hotel for three days, whether I was valeting my car, parking myself, dropping off stuff, picking up, leaving bags to make room for guests in my car, the valet staff was not limited in how they were able to help me. There was even a time when I misplaced my phone and simply had to look in my car. The kind man brought it over (in the rain), let me look, find, and off he went to park the car again. The rooms are spacious and many have good views of a lower valley of northwest Austin or a city-ish view. Furniture and beds were nicely appointed and comfortable. My only issue is with the bathroom. You can definitely tell that the bathrooms were not part of the last renovation package as the wall tile was a powdery pink. It was almost retro, but missed the mark and just looked a little as though the last pass with the renovation budget skimped. I am generally a Hilton boy, but I have to say that I prefer Marriott and Renaissance bath products. Aveda in my room is a very good thing. As far as hotel facility and use of space for our event, the atrium of this hotel is very good locking. I love their choice of bright colored silestone on their counters, artfully placed and used blown and fused glass, and the space it self is flexible enough so that if you are looking to highlight something for your event, you have lots of choices. Meeting rooms were always comfortable -- when they are usually effin freezing! My one issue is with the Rio Grande room. A lower-level ball room, this space has a groovy carpet and cement brick walls with huge load-bearing stanchions about the room, which obstructs the space and just looks darn ugly. The hotel tried to distract the ugliness by putting "decorative" meshing around the pole, but it just looks obvious. If you are looking for a banquet room, definitely go for the Glass Oaks room, which overlooks the valley, has beautiful finish outs and a good flow of space for guests and staff. I'd get (re)married there!
