by Holly C. on I know some people said the decor is cheesey, but I actually really liked it! I didn't look really close, but if you take a step back, overall it looks very nice. I came on NYE for their after-after party. I was surprised there was a line out the door at 3 AM! The crowd seemed iffy, the music was a mix of hip-hop & house. The upstairs was freezing so we ended up staying down stairs the whole time. I would definitely like to check out the place on a regular night. Maybe get a table upstairs (if it's not so cold!)
by Linsey Hilla on MMM... YUM YUM YUM! BEAUTIFUL PLACE, DELICIOUS FOOD, AND FRIENDLY/PROFESSIONAL SERVICE! I was taken to XIV the day before Valentine's Day on a surprise! As our car pulled up, I realized we were going to dine at XIV, I immediately started screaming and jumping for joy. Because as much as I eat out in LA, XIV has been on the top of my must-try lists for as long as they've been opened! So yes, my expectations were high. We actually arrived 20 min before our reservation, so we headed to the bar. The hostess suggested the bar in the patio section which was a lot more cozy (very pretty too!) and less formal than the one in the dining area I thought. As we waited for our table, we each had a glass of wine. It didn't take long and we were seated. Even tho I have long seen their menu online (I've been dying to try this place, remember?), I carefully browsed through every single items they had to offer. This is when my generous friend wanted me to order how much ever and whatever I wanted... YES! So with our very friendly waiter's help, I started our meal with 8 dishes. Tuna tartare, beef carpaccio, Maine lobster... mmm... I was more than pleased with every single one of them. Dishes were small but small is a good thing here because there were so many of them to try. Nothing was typical, everything we received had a lil twist out of your ordinaries, say beef carpaccio. The beef were roll up into bite size with shredded Romaine inside, beef were super tender (melt in your mouth tender), with the horseradish sauce, it was delicious. We ended up ordering two more dishes and both of them were cheese (don't even get me started with the cheese... totally extraordinary, I never knew cheese could be serve that way, eye opener!). Couple of more glasses of wine (btw, lovely wine, it was perfect with the meal, it's a tapas place afterall, right?) and 10 dishes later... my conclusion of the evening and of this review would be - I thought I had died and gone to heave! =)
