by Abel Mates on I am very disappointed, and cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. I particularly discourage you form choosing Gloria's if you have a large party. I belong to a group of 20 who dine together at different Austin restaurants monthly. We have been doing this for several years, and always work with the restaurant before going to make sure they know we're coming, what time they recommend us for us to arrive since we are a larger group, etc. The dining experience begins the moment you enter the door. For us that meant a surprisingly rude hostess. Since they don't take reservations but rather "call ahead" we complied, and were told a table time of 7pm. At 6:45, 13 of us had arrived. We were told we couldn't be seated until the full party was there. At 7pm 16 of us were there, again told can't be seated. At 7:15 our entire 20 were there. We were seated at 8:15. We were hungry and somewhat grouchy by now. Generally by now we would have ordered appetizers and more than a few bottles of wine. We're not new at this, we've been eating as a group for several years, and can list for you the restaurants who know how to manage their customer flow. The hostess, for me, set the tone for the entire evening with her rude and snotty behavior. By the time we were sat, we skipped drinks entirely, no appetizers, ordered a bunch of entrees that were fine, but uninspired. The one star is for our waiter, who truly did his best given that he was clearly overburdened and running around trying to service too many tables. I highly recommend quite a few of the Domain restaurants. I look forward to Gloria's either getting it together and training their staff, or the next restaurant to fill that lovely space.
by Holly C. on I know some people said the decor is cheesey, but I actually really liked it! I didn't look really close, but if you take a step back, overall it looks very nice. I came on NYE for their after-after party. I was surprised there was a line out the door at 3 AM! The crowd seemed iffy, the music was a mix of hip-hop & house. The upstairs was freezing so we ended up staying down stairs the whole time. I would definitely like to check out the place on a regular night. Maybe get a table upstairs (if it's not so cold!)
