I was about to get in my car to head home last night and heard fabulous music coming from across the street. I walked over and into the Piano Bar and found a bit of New Orleans right in LA. A great bad - George Thoroughgood stopped in and sang - those types of things happen in New Orleans frequently. A cool dark place, a good cocktail, nice crowd ... may have to stop in there again tonight. This is definitely five star.

Much happier with this space since it's moved to the Hotel Nikko. I've seen several acts here, and each time it's been a rather pleasant and intimate experience. The venue itself is rather wide and deep, meaning you might be off-center from the stage but never really far from it. Just about every seat offers a very nice view. Kudos to the promoters for getting some really great acts, reflecting a lot of diversity in performers and music. As for getting tickets, I would keep an eye on http://Goldstar.comto find some really good discounts. I'm not sure what the AMEX Gold Card VIP treatment will get you, but I've never really been stuck with crappy seats at the RR. One word of advice is that, in order to make the two-drink minimum, you should order both of your drinks when they take your first order. Otherwise you might risk getting your second drink too late in the show to really enjoy it.
