A close friend of mine was in from out of town for her birthday and I made a reservation at Coda to celebrate. I had never been to Coda, and was pleasantly surprised with the experience. I really enjoyed the ambiance - the converted warehouse look with exposed brick coupled nicely with the amber lights that filled the room. The cocktails were very tasty - I had the "Ginger Skyy", which was balanced and refreshing. The food was pretty fab. I had the summer squash ravioli, which was fresh, rich and delicious. Some of the other dishes at the table included the amazing honey ginger fried chicken, and flavorful spinach risotto. They also offer a pre-fixed menu for $35, which includes a glass of wine and the cover charge for the show. The downsides are limited, but not non-existent. Coda is located at the very edge of the Mission next to the freeway - it's not too far from more main areas, but could be better. If you're planning of walking to bars from there be sure to wear comfortable shoes. The one thing that really bothered me was the cover charge. I sincerely feel that if your are paying for a full dinner that you should not have to pay a cover charge for the show. Overall it was a really nice experience. The Jazz was great, the food was nom-licious, and the servers were attentive and nice.

We came here for a friend's birthday yesterday. We thought we'd never heard of it until we walked in, and we both went "ohhhh this place!" Turns out the last time we were here we hardly remembered the night! We took an outside table since the rain had died down and ordered a round of mint juleps. Now why in the world were they serving mint juleps? It took us about 20 minutes to realize it was because it was Kentucky Derby day! They were really strong and tasty, but we could only handle a couple since they were also insanely sweet. So we switched to beer and gin and tonics (really strong as well). BTW, they had the $10 all you can drink miller lite.... an option I would definitely go for if I had the time or was looking to drink more than 10 miller lites... because really how else could that promotion be justified? They also had a BBQ that was free, they just asked for tips. And had I known this, I wouldn't have gorged on nachos before I went. They grilled some corn and hot dogs, and both smelled amazing. And no, they weren't grilled together. Seriously, who doesn't love elote?! I wish I lived closer to this place, as in not in East Bay because it'd be a great place to walk to, get buzzed, and head home. Oh! and for some reason the bartender refused to make a mojito saying that they didn't have the right stuff. Um, what? Your bar is currently covered in mint leaves for your mint juleps!

I am giving this place 4 stars even though I don't consider it a weekly hangout, but because it has been a consistent last minute saturday spot for us with dependably good hip hop and a clean environment, it definitely deserves it... Diverse crowd on Saturdays, drinks are $10 minimum, $3 coat check, and I noticed that they serve food now by the smoking section! The only thing I don't like about this place is that I need to bring a flashlight in order to see the dude's face that I might be dancing with since the catacombs are dark as F*uck... and that's not cool when you are partially blind or have beer goggles on... I want to know that the fellow I am talking to looks decent.. lol
