by Mita R. on Rasselas gets the 5 stars from me because this place was a life saver when I moved to the Bay Area. The transition was hard already, and not having a place I could call "my haunt" made it worse. However, within weeks of moving here, I found that I liked, nay...loved, the place immensely. Why?: because it's not like a club where one feels pressured to look good, indulge in small talk etc. I'd go there, order my drink and sit back and enjoy the music (and the food too), even amidst company. "Chill out" is what people say...... What I liked best is when they played James Brown and I watched this lady up from the mezzanine area moving with such fluidity and grace that I couldn't take my eyes off her the entire night. Such elan!!! And then, I met the man I love, to whom I'm married to and we celebrated his (surprise) birthday here. The staff (Megan was one of them and Jessica was the other) made it an event I will remember forever! The food, wine, music and the people of RJC get the thumbs up from me. Over the years, we went there so much that I had to strike a deal with my husband: weekends of 2009 should not include Rasselas. I said yes. I kept my word - I did not drag him there; I went there with my girl friends :)))
