by Johnnie Lakowski on Be warned right now that should be extremely weary of frequenting this establishment unless you fulfill all of the following qualities below: 1) You just came from Korea and are only used to "booking" girls at the club since you have never actually had the nerve to approach one and speak to her. 2) You just love bouncing up and down to fruity, I mean fobby, music. "I want nobody, nobody but YOU..." *body roll* 3) You have a not-so-secret trust fund funded by an off-shore bank account and simply enjoy throwing your money down the toilet to help fund the anti-non-Korean owner's obsession with Infiniti G35's and Audi TT's. See exhibit A -- $20-30 for cover, $4 for coat check, $8 for a 12oz beer or $14 for a cocktail = one helluva tab. 4) You really have NO OTHER FRIENDS that would go anywhere else in the city to party except Circle. 5) You don't speak English, therefore this is your only choice. I'm totally over this joint. NEXT.
by Winston M. on Yoshi's San Francisco is great. The music, the food, the drinks.. I mean this is pretty much the equation to living it up. If you're a music fan, SF Yoshi's is definitely the epitome of all your expectations of music-oriented establishment. First time I came to Yoshis SF, I watched a neo-soul singer. One of the greatest things that I realized that Yoshis SF does is they incorporate different genres of music besides jazz. For example, they have a good amount of underground hip-hop groups, soul/neo-soul artists, and blues artists that appear at this venue. I have to greatly admire this place for embracing other forms of music genres along with their selected jazz greats (though I understand a lot of music are influenced by jazz, a lot of them are not denoted of the title of 'jazz music'). They have great jazz artists to watch. There are just a plethora of musicians to list that I have enjoyed watching here. The venue itself is similar to the Oakland Yoshi's. The ground floor may be bigger by one more row of seating and of course the added balcony. Regardless of where you sit, the acoustics are great all throughout. Since the establishment is known as "Jazz Club & Japanese Restaurant," I suppose it is only fair to include my review of the dining portion. The prices are quite pricey for both food and drinks and the portions may be small which I continually have to remind myself that I am not eating at a cheap place; I am eating at Yoshi's. Just a friendly tip: you may probably want to find a place to eat prior to eating here because the portions are a bit on the smaller side and your wallet won't probably have to suffer a beating. The food is great don't get me wrong....just after you finish your food, you may be inclined to order perhaps another dish which would add to your total bill just for food. My main concern with Yoshis' are the price and the portions of food which dissuades me from giving a full 5 stars but the venue and the music artists that this establishment promotes definitely makes me want to come back over and over again. In all honesty, if you musicians are looking for any ideas to spark on your own music craft, this is definitely the place to find inspiration.
