Bowling in New York is not the same kind of thing it is in all of the small towns we grew up in. Back in Podunk, rolling is a fun, inexpensive thing to do with friends/coworkers on a random night out. In New York, it's an expensive planned event, with some people dressing up and microbrews required for any lane to stay in business. Lucky Strike is the epitome of this. It looks like a club, is lit like a club, and usually is playing the same kind of music you'd find in the Meat-Packing District. You can be casual, sure, but for the most part, this is an expensive place to roll, drink, and be seen. Celebrities are occasionally present and lanes sometimes must be reserved (during heavy periods). The beer ain't bad, though the price is high, too, and you might wind up disappointed by the whole thing if you roll a bad game. Of course, some people like this kind of thing, including me (when I'm in the mood). I would suggest The Gutter or other bar/bowling alleys in Brooklyn for those looking for a deal, but for a fun, sceney kind of night out, Lucky Strikes ain't half-bad in my book. BEER: Classics and microbrews, with a price that'll make you hesitate after your second. SERVICE: Meh. They don't have to work hard because most of the place is automated. Go with a group and split the price. It makes it a little easier to swallow.

When I think of places that I would want to go to to hear a band, this would be it without a doubt! I went to a conference that was held here for Internet Week and I loved the lower level where you could imagine a stage, the crowded bar scene and more. This area in general is known as a great place to hear live music. The bartenders were friendly, I'll definitely check back when they have a show!
