I'd love to know what it's like inside, but I'll never know because I made the mistake of showing up with a doggie bag from the place I had just eaten dinner. The bouncer (bowling alleys need bouncers?) held firm - there would be no left over fish tacos entering his bowling establishment. After all, they serve food in there, and if he let someone in who had just finished dinner ten minutes ago and was carrying a doggy bag, then, well, who knows what might happen. Hey keep up the good work buddy, one day you'll graduate to bar bouncer, where even greater challenges await you. In the meantime, someone else will get my entertainment dollar. Nice work.

Caveat: This review applies to live music Salsa nights on the upper floor only. A friend and I went to Iguana when we realized that we weren't going to make it in time to the Midsummer Night Swing at Lincoln Center and still wanted to get our salsa fix for the night. We get there around 10:30 and unsurprisingly manage to be one of the first ones there. The bar was circular (in an abstract kind of way) and there were two nice wood dance floors on either side. The place was promising. It took about an hour before I realized that 90% of the people there would be at least in their late 30s, majority hispanic and sporting mucho facial hair. There was also one dude I swear was probably a mafia lieutenant, but also a very happy smiling one. Most people kept to the groups they came in and no-one was particularly aggressive. When we ordered drinks they were reasonably priced (~$10 per cocktail) but then in a throwback to college glory days came in plastic cups. WTF. The band itself was decent, only spoke Spanish and got started around 1PM. In the meantime the DJ was spinning a viable mix of salsa music (since all i really listen for is 1-2-3 5-6-7) and the floors weren't too crowded. Bottom line - if you want to go salsa with a group of friends (or a date)and listen to live music, this is not a bad place to do it. Just don't expect too much else.
