Dive Bar Heaven? Maybe. The night we went the jukebox wasn't on but they were playing some groovy 80's tunes. There's a pool table in the front room where you walk in. The roof lines are great mid century modern goodness. I love the ceiling. The bartender pours a fair drink I'm told. I'll have to make another trip after I'm off this diet. I'm looking forward to checking it out on the second Saturday of the month for Obscura (formally at the Ruby Room).

as a restaurant: two stars as a bar: four stars i've eaten here a few times, most memorably last night. the chicken stew was extremely disappointing and came in around $10, which seems a couple of bucks excessive. if you are looking for tasty ethiopian, walk down to massawa [upper haight] or axum [lower haight]. now as a bar - i think this place is great. the old skool soul house wall paper and soundtrack are great and make me want to groove in my seat. and i'm white. i've never seen it crowded, the barlady always feels welcoming, and they've got pitchers. great bar with food available, but don't come here expecting a q-linary experience.
