by R L. on Great decor and atmosphere: AS for th club itself...pretty much SUCKS! Insane drink prices...you know our economy is in a bind right?! Jeeesh! Anyhow, won't be going back ...to me what makes a good nightclub is the music and the people...people here were kind of over the top, weird and stuffy...and the music was WHATEVER...and of course the long ass lines don't help.
by Dewayne Barcliff on So I'm a huge fan of Michael Mina. Also a ridiculous fan of Philippe Starck. Can the union of those two geniuses get any better? My gracious friend took me here after quite a stressful work week and this couldn't have been a better reward! I thought I was destined to never evar make it to Michael Mina in SF... even when I lived in the city. Something always happened... work got in the way, ressys were too late, too early, blah. Even when I've made weekend trips to the bay as of late... something always got in the way. I even have the Michale Mina cookbook for bloody sake! When I entered here, the ambiance doesn't quite feel like a Starck, yet it's bustling and entertaining. I loved the vibe and we were warmly greeted... Our selections: Nantucket Bay Scallops Tempura (melted in your mouth... paired with cauliflower, passion fruit and almonds) Dungeness Crab Crepe (a bit over seasoned, yet fun. This came garnished with basil, capers and drizzled with a hollandaise sauce.) Black Cod: I was completely excited about this... esp because it wasn't marinated in miso/soy. Came presented in a tagine and paired with spaghetti sqush and had a nice complex finish. * I paired the above dishes with the Serrig Wurtzberg Reisling based on the server's recommendation but it was a bit too sweet for my palate. After asking for something a bit dryer, she came back with a glass of the Domaines Baron de Rothschild, which is a Sauvignon Blanc blend. This was perfect, and the server was gracious to not even charge us for the initial Reisling. Beef Filet: Everyone knows that I'm not much of a beef eater, but this was amazing! Came paired with braised short rib tortellini and truffle consomme. Root Vegetables. This was divine. Thank you very much. * Above paired with the Talley Valley Vinyards Pinot Noir We opted to get a nite cap at their gorgeous bar afterwards and they couldn't have the most perfect cocktail with my name written on it... it was called Rickey YUZU! (Plymouth, fresh YUZU, fresh lemon, Regan's orange bitters, crushed ice and soda) I must have died and gone to heaven...
