by Jen S. on Bar Chi is cool. It definitely does not compare to Kenichi or Imperia but for a great happy hour and laid back atmosphere, it works. We went late night and coincidentally the Happy Hour was still running. I am not sure if this is normal or a fluke, as I haven't been able to find a website for them yet. Either way our wine was $4 a glass. Not bad. The music was a bit loud and playing some trance type Pandora station. It reminded me of being at Tao in Vegas a little. I think that's the vibe they are going for. We definitely will go back as I would like to sit in the restaurant side and not just the bar. Best of luck to the new owners... I was starting to think this place was cursed.
by Sally f. on ROCK. JOHNNY BRENDAS. the reviewer below (duocorn) is my beautiful roommate and she brought me to johnny's on wed night to see David Vanderveld and I was very impressed by the atmosphere and the music. From the outside this place looks like nothing. I ride by it on my bike every single day and never realized how sweet it is. The first floor is a regular bar, the second floor is another bar but with a stage for performers, and the third floor is a mezzanine level to look down on the performer. not to mention I'm now in love with David Vanderveld...and his bassist!
by Art Ardion on The ceilings are low and the decor is late-70s basement rec room, but the wide back patio, with its multi-levels, is a great place to savor the very eclectic crowd that gravitates here. For some reason pretty much everyone feels comfortable at this bar, regardless of age, ethnic background, or sexual preference, probably because there are few pretentious poseurs milling about. My friend used to be the DJ here on Sunday afternoons, so this was a regular hangout, and I learned to love salsa music with a passion. Having two left feet - both on the right leg - inhibits me as a dancer, but it was fun to kick back and watch sweet young things in tight pants wiggle their way around.
