First off, trying to make a reservation was a ridiculous process.  Their own website reservation system hasn't worked in at least 3 weeks.  I left three messages and none of my calls were returned...I finally had to have a friend call and he called twice and also didn't get a return call; he happened to call a few hours before we were planning to show up and they actually did pick-up the phone. Unlike what their website says, they don't open until 8pm (at least on Fridays), which is weird.  Unreturned phone calls, a website reservation system that doesn't work, not opening until 8pm...it really seems like Le Club is not going to be around much longer or they are changing their focus to just private events. Despite all the hassle of trying to figure out if this place was still open or not, the décor and feel inside is very cool.  It has a nice, "upscale sexy French library" feel to it - I really liked it.  The dim lighting and the candles really enhanced that feel.  Unfortunately the place was completely empty so it didn't make it as fun and lively as it could have been. The food itself was mediocre.  We started off with a cheese plate selection, which was actually really good - 3 generous portions of cheese with some honey and Marcona almonds.  I had the beef tenderloin, which was a bit more rare than I wanted and really didn't have very much flavor...the side of vegetables and potatoes were fairly decent, though.  My friend had a seared fish entrée, which was pretty good, but not particularly outstanding. I really thought I would like this place, but with the inattentive customer service, the mediocre food and the fact that no one is here, it's hard to like it.  Our server was nice, but she was playing hostess and bartender, which was a little strange.  Maybe it's the kind of place that's popular only for drinks and later at night...?     If they are changing their operation focus, they really should update their online information.

The music was the highpoint here -- definitely good and worth listening to.  The venue itself is just a big room lit by red light, with a pair of bars along one wall.  $15 cover charge on the Friday night I went, and you get a wrist band so you can come and go, which we did probably three times that night, stopping in to see if the crowd had improved, then moving on. I'd recommend it if you're most interested in just letting loose and dancing to some good house; can't say I'd recommend if you're more interested in socializing.  The crowd was chill -- definitely older -- but mostly on the dance floor, at least the times we checked in (between say 10:30 PM and 12:30 AM).  They did tell me it got going more later -- King King is open until 4 in the morning.  Can see it being more a joint you'd enjoy if you were a local and in search of something different and a little under the radar -- hell, the entrance was around back.  Funny place.

The Roosevelt is where i stay when i go to LA now - but it is in a unique location so sometimes i stay elsewhere if i want to primarily visit a different part of LA. i've stayed all over.  I've stayed at Chateau Marmont and the W and the Orlando (very cool) and loads of other spots but i think i liked the Roosevelt the best.  First, it has that Old Hollywood feel and that Old Hollywood name and rep and class, but it's new and trendy and hot at the same time.  You get the location that's right across the street (almost) from the Mann Chinese (not really a big deal, btw) but that just means that there's a hollyweird centralness to the location so you don't have to drive too far to get to any of the ultra-cool hidden hollywood haunts.  the clientele is interesting, which is a good thing.  it's sorta like the Hard Rock Hotel in vegas.  the Roosevelt may have an old name, but the clientele is trashy-chic, divey-hip. plus there's an awesome conceirge that's pretty well connected throughout the city.  this is important because the trendy, hot places in LA rotate on a 9 month basis so any place that was "the place" 9 months ago is probably no-more-cool at the moment.  to find out where the almost-famous and next-big-thing models are hanging out with the industry people, you need to know someone with their ear to the ground.  i know a lot of folks in the City of Angels that are semi-retired from the party scene so it's always good to get another perspective on what's hot, especially from someone that has the power to pick up the phone and put you on the guest list too.  :) the best part, of course, are the weekend pool parties that start to get rockin around 11am or so and stay that way till the shadows cover the pool area.  you should stay at the hotel because they secure off the place "club-style" really early and then it's hard to get in.  as a hotel guest, you can bring a couple friends to the party but not too many.  there's usually a line of people trying to get into the pool party.  and even better, you want to tip the pool guys to reserve a bed or some pool chairs by the pool for you.  if you don't then odds are low you'll get to sit during the party.  i had to get up around 9am (which was hard), look out onto the pool - this reminds me, get a room with a view of the pool otherwise you'll have to walk a little ways to get to it - and i saw that, at 9am!, there was only one bed by the pool left with nobody on it and no "reserved" sign.  so i rushed down, grabbed it, ordered some breakfast and a bloody mary.  a couple hours later all the friends arrived and the party got going. oh yes, and if you care: the rooms are awesome.  beds, amenities, bathroom, everything redone, remodeled modern design with ipod players and the whole deal.  very nice everything.
