Dear Avenue, I am still hungover from your quixotic mix of table service, attentive and very courteous service at that, and your resplendent crowd.  I have been awed in a I can't remember that much of the end of the night type of way. Best, J We arrived early on a Friday night (11:15 pm) and were on the list.  There is no chance of entry on a weekend, or really any other night, if you are not on the list which made me want to be angry with Avenue until I stepped inside.  We still waited about five minutes to get in although one person was standing in front of us dealing their smoke into our faces, but it was well worth it.  Please note, do not even try to enter without a balanced party of men and women, heavier on the women. Once inside this place is inviting to say the least.  Great decor and the most friendly service from hostess to table servers that you can find.  I would guess if you act like an ass though, you may be shown the door.  Table service with a one bottle minimum, probably based on your level of connections, is what led me to the hangover.  When a bottle of Jack just sits at your table for five all night, you have to drink the whole thing.  They leave whatever mixers you request first on the table with glasses, ice, etc. which all become unnecessary when you become impaired enough to keep pouring the Jack onto fresh ice. Cue 3 a.m. when the place is filled with beautiful people and I can't seem to see straight.  The bottle is still sitting at our table, gently inviting me to partake.  People dancing everywhere, but not in a dance club type of way, more in a people at their private tables just going bananas in their space, spilling over to other spaces and eventually turning into what can only be called a jam. Cue later than 3 a.m. when I finally drag myself out of there, more due to the alcohol than the crowd.  Seriously one of the best crowds in a variety of ways - good looking, all having fun and no drama to be noted, not even in line for the bathroom.  Russell Simmons sighting and probably many more that I overlooked due to pure intoxication. The service you get at Avenue is well worth whatever rental fee you pay to be there, top of the line in just being cool and also inviting you to have fun. Cab ride home with thoughts of hangover, barely remembering the actual ride home.  In the morning, the hangover is revealed and it is not pretty, but my night at Avenue was amazing.

tough crowd for rouge... I thought it was decent! If you sign up on the guest list, you can get in for free, which is always a plus. The alcohol is kind of ridiculously priced (and soda is 3 bucks, WTF) and the sizes are small, but hey it's a club. The bar got pretty crowded throughout the night, but the dance floor was relatively empty, even though the club is really small in size. I didn't mind that it wasn't crowded... i actually really liked it. I hate when there are too many people and you cant even move. They also played pretty good music :) If you stay late enough, they announce drink deals (4 bucks for a kamikaze, stuff like that) I would come back, I like how it doesn't get too busy on a saturday night... though i would definitely pre party before i come the next time.

venu used to have a raging drum n bass night a few years back. back when getting hella sweaty and dancing like a maniac was cool. like before i turned 20. (why the hell dont i do that any more? oh yeah, electronic music these days just aint the same. AND NO, its no evolution, its regression)... anyway, i saw dj craze (yes, he rocks the dnb too), ltj bukem and other legends there. it was interesting to see ravers in huge pants grinding their teeth and doing the junglist east coast pivot move at a fairly upscale night club. damn, i had to watch myself. otherwise i would have to dodge flying pacifiers, glo sticks or teletubby backpacks. now venu is a second home to the euro crowd on friday nights. the cover is ludicrous ($20) for a place where the existing sound system is decent (occasionally promoters bring extra equipment depending on the DJ) and the drinks are overpriced. its fun if you bring your own people.
