I hate places that charge a men-only cover when it's not even dark yet.  I had this experience at a fratty bar on the West Villag once, and it really pissid me off.  What really annoys me is that the places that charge a men only cover  always seem to be the places I'm dragged to and would never visit otherwise.  How about cover charges for guys at the places with women I'd actually want to meet like at the bookstore?? I digress. Despite its before dark cover last night, SOBs is a place I actually like to go to because they have great music there all the time.  There also people you would like to meet there and the free salsa class on Friday mitigates the annoying cover. I've taken classes elsewhere before, but I wasn't good enough to feel silly partcipating--was good enough to impress the newbies...hahaha! The caipirinhas were a little expensive for happy hour at $11, but were just the right thing to toast Rio's winning Olympic bid, and many other things.

2 days later and my ears are still ringing!! I agree with a previous rateclubser it's way too loud. But, that explains the hoards of people standing in the back by the bar. I recommend you do this and you should be fine. Coat check is $3. Drinks are $7. I paid $18 for my entrance fee. So, overall it's not cheap. Aside from the ringing in my ears that I'm currently experiencing... I had a great time. There were a lot of males (as a prev rateclubser said) but there were also a lot of hot girls around to balance out the crowd. I had 1 loser touch my ass a few times but I just gave him the finger and he left me the fuck alone so that was refreshing. I also liked the outdoor area with a dj. It's cool because it's right on the street where the entrance is. It also makes for a nice break from the loooud tunes indoors. Next time I go: I'm gonna leave my jacket at home, pre-drink, and bring ear plugs!

Be smart and stay far far away. This is not a vaery classy place and not a place to be doing somehting oull regret in the morning. I you do have to go, be sure to bring a friend and stay in pairs because many of the guys are creepy and very forward- even after shot down. Not the best crowd in town.
