by Anabelle L. on honestly, I expected so much more. when after many stories by my friends i got there I was disappointed. First thing that you notice is the intense smell of bar, or a club. I am not sure if you know what do I mean by it, but its not pleasant for sure, Then the show was blahhhh, and it got so packed by the middle of the night that you can hardly move. Anyway this is not a type of place i see myself in. Maybe it can work for others.

I went here thinking my cover charge would pay for a grandiose experience, replete with a couple trapeze flyers, a dude on stilts or at the very least, some go go dancers. Not so. It was a Saturday, and apparently that meant hip hop night. I didn't pay $20 to watch a guy and a girl onstage do the same thing everyone else on the dance floor is doing. Well, at one point the guy C-walked, but still, not worth it, though it was certainly a throwback to my high school years. I would have even appreciated it if they threw some of the more attractive bouncers out front onto that stage to, I don't know, juggle pins or something - hiring hip hop dancers is unnecessary and boring. Where's "stilt man"? PARKING Valet is $20 and the lot close by, with entrance on the side of the club is $10. Unless you plan to roll up in a Mosler MT900 or drive an SUV, it really isn't worth it to do valet. I say SUV because the spaces are rather tight in the regular lot. Walking distance from the regular lot to the entrance is no major schlepp. If it was good enough for the Astin Martin to park back there, it was good enough for me. GUEST LIST If you do plan to come here, get on the guestlist. It's worth the 2 minutes to punch in your information in the online fields to save that 10-20 minutes spent in a line. I'd sent a request at 4AM and received a response at 11:30AM, with my confirmation for the same day. PERSONNEL Anthony, the doorman, was exceptionally nice. I'd lost my cell phone at some point during the night and, jaded by knowledge/experience of human nature, resigned myself into believing it'd been lost for good. However, someone nice enough to call my friend to let me know I'd left it met me there before closing (shout out to the out-of-towner named Kelly, bless your soul). When I came back and told Anthony what had happened he let me in, then a few beats later came in and asked me if I was able to find the person to retrieve my phone. His concern seemed genuine, when most club personnel would ordinarily not give a patron's dilemma a second thought. If only the guys who accosted me that night were more like him, this place would get another star! Pretty much every staff we'd run into was nice, from the girl serving the fruit to the chick taking coats and cover fees, it was nice. Beats dealing with people who act like they don't want to be there, or are too snooty to hear anything but their own voice. DANCE FLOOR Dance floor is a bit small, however. Unless you are the type who enjoys bumping and grinding. there really is not enough space. My friend was wearing open toe shoes and drinks spilled onto her feet. Also, the only way to get to the restrooms is to pass through the dancefloor, which was highly inconvenient. ENTERTAINMENT Although reviewers here tout the "free" chocolate covered fruit and tacos, I can do without them. As a girl, you come here looking your best, which probably implies having to wear makeup. That said, the only people who would truly appreciate this are the guys. Instead of food, there should be more attention directed at entertaining - give me someone on a trapeze or some flame throwers, please. Also, a sneeze guard over the fruit couldn't hurt... DRINKS Drinks are meh. I wanted a simple mojito, but the bartender said they were out of mint, and gave me the option of having one without the mint. Mojito without mint? No, thanks. The drink I did order was sufficiently strong, though I was looking forward to a mojito... PROS: - Convenient parking - Anthony, the doorman - Coat check, $2 per item - Decent privacy for people with reserved tables - close proximity to Palms Thai Restaurant to get your post clubbing grub on (they close 1:30) - heat lamps in the "Garden" courtyard when you come in CONS: - Small dance floor - No sneeze guard at fruit table (for the inner germaphobes that lurk within us) - They had some theme night on Friday, but they really should do something for Saturday nights, for those of us who work and can't go out on Fridays... =) - Lack of thought into the route to restrooms (adds more congestion on the dance floor of people trying to get across to the other side); someone else mentioned a 2nd set of bathrooms, though I didn't see it... - Lack of "side" entertainment - Limited square footage (wasn't the Hollywood Athletic Club bigger?) - short dudes (is it me or has the demographic among clubgoing males begun to shrink?) Final verdict: Though ambivalent, given the pros outweighing the cons, I'd still come back... after I see what else is out there.
