Love, love, love Mamajuana! Went for dinner, was not expecting much. Beautiful interior with soft lighting- perfect for a date with someone special. The drinks were out of this world yummy, and the food - heavenly! I got the tapas appetizer and it was delicious. I got samples of many different features off the menu. The sangria is to die for. This restaurant is definitely worth coming uptown for.

Another disaster of an LA restaurant: pretentious, bad food but great decor. Nobody in LA really cares about Michael Mina, we just want great food with friendly service. XIV has changed its menu several times over to deal with not only the recessionary times but also complaints about super small portions and flavorless tapas style meals. And it still really hasn't perfected anything. This restaurant lacks character and the food lacks substance. Instead of spending so much money on the interior design they should have focused on the food. Unfortunately they have not. Reservations are typical of SBE restaurants: they pretend they are full to create hype but never are.

Oh, how pacifying it is to close your eyes, draw a long, deep breath, and feel your hair swept away by the cool breeze of.....the Hudson??? Ok, grimy river aside, this is one cool concept! Probably not the best choice for Dramamine-lovers, as you will persistently question whether it's the boat that's swaying or whether you ordered one too many Coronas, but sippin' a few drinks under the stars while taking in the skyline is pretty fun! The crowd is chill and all of the bartenders are really nice. The bathrooms are not so nice. Just don't fall into the river....I don't think there will be any Jack Dawson's around who are willing to find out what lies beneath....
