by Asuka N. on I took my girlfriend here for her birthday last year. It's one of the 'name' restaurants in Philly, and I figured it was a good occasion/excuse to eat at the restaurant of an Iron Chef. The atmosphere is fantastic - it's very contemporary/post-modern, and there's a lot of room in the restaurant. The waiters are very good at making sure you're set up and comfortable at your seat. However, I was a bit disappointed with the food. Perhaps I'd think differently if I tried their sushi instead (which appears to be some of the favorites that are mentioned in other reviews), but given that there are plenty of sushi restaurants around, I'd give the Asian fusion cuisine a shot. The tuna tartare with caviar was delicious, but the portions was quite small, making it a relatively difficult dish to split amongst two. The entrees were somewhat disappointing as well. I had a special Japanese dish with wagyu beef over egg and rice, with the beef being served raw and cooked along the edge of the hot clay bowl. The waitress botched this and ended up getting the meat about half-cooked. My girlfriend had the surf & turf, but her impression was that the lobster wasn't freshly killed and lacked the usual juiciness. I think Morimoto might be a place where I come back and try the sushi, because it definitely wasn't worth the pain in my wallet otherwise. And in the Asian fusion genre, it is absolutely no comparison to Buddakan, which I feel is far superior.
by Stephen Quant on Came on a Friday night and had a hard time finding the location. I was hoping to valet but end up parking at Hollywood x Highland. While Marbella's address is on Hollywood Blvd., their actual entrance is on the side streets. A couple homeless directed us to turn at the corner in order to find the club. We got there before 1030p, the promoters asked us if we were on the guestlist, but they didn't even bother checking. Girls got in for free, and guys had to pay a cover of $20. Drinks: Expensive. The minimum on a credit card is $30. Music: Top 40, Pop Music. Ambiance: Nice dancing area, classy looking interior. However, I like their outdoor balcony area much more. It is nice to sit and relax under a heat lamp and carry a conversation outside. Overall: I like this place. But the guys didn't like it too much because cover for $20.
