Trudy's food is kind of hit or miss with me. It's never greatly satisfying, but its decent. What is really good are the drinks, like the Mexican martini, pretty damn good. I say go for the drinks with your friends and it'll always be a good time, but eat somewhere else before/after your drink-a-thon.

We stopped in on a hot, summer day after gallery-hopping in the neighborhood. Their sign advertising $4 happy hour beers and well drinks was a definite attraction. We were tired from walking and this place was just perfect for getting a load off our feet. It had just turned 5:00, so there was no one else in the place but us. It was quiet, calm, cool, and beautiful--exactly what we needed at that very moment. We ordered a couple of beers and got a complimentary dish of mini pappadums to snack on. This whetted our appetite, so we went ahead and ordered a couple of items from the appetizer menu to snack on (we we had plans for dinner elsewhere later on). We got the house salad and the aloo kulcha (potato stuffed flat bread). Everything was delicious. The salad was far from a typical "house salad"--it had mixed greens, avocado, and a tamarind-inflected dressing. Yummy. I have no idea what the place is like when it's peak dinner hour or when it turns into a club, but when we were there, the one-on-one attention from the bartender (possibly also owner or manager) was terrific. We were able to relax and we enjoyed the small sampling fo the food that we got.
