by Mish L. on I fell in love w/ Mayes two months ago when I came out to SF w/ a friend to eat and get our drink on. This happened to be the first stop of the night. And I'm still talking about it! :-) We came here for the happy hour appetizers and drinks. From outside, not so hot. Walk in, and I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious bar area with flat screen TV's, stools and bar tables. The dim lighting, dark wood panels, fireplace, and classy decor were perfect and not too over the top-- added to the warmth and great vibe of the place. Not to mention our waitress and bartender being super friendly and prompt. And I know everyone raves about their $1 happy hour oysters... But they're that good! Absolutely fresh and they come w/ 3 different types of dipping sauces. For a buck!? Shoot. I still remember wishing we had ordered more! We also tried the Oyster Shooters and the Hawaiian Ahi Poke. Both excellent and delicious. And the booze... Sigh. If I wasn't already in love w/ this place, the drinks sealed the deal. I was head over heels after I had my first sip. Three rounds of cocktails later and I was seeing stars. I tried a variety that night, and they were all stellar. (Sorry my memory fails me as to which ones I had.) Next time I will have to check out dinner, music and the late night vibe. See you soon Mayes! :-)
by Ling Buttrey on The best thing about this place was the music! The hip hop choices were off the hook! The entire night, I wanted to stay on the dance floor! Now let's move on to why I only gave it 3 stars. The bar was limited on space! The entire night I felt like I was dancing with everyone around me. At one point I felt like I was being grinded by SOMEONE that I would have not selected to grind with or grind me! I was also a bit shocked with the drink prices! 2 drinks cost me $26 bucks! If I had to suggest anything, go early, get your dance on, and once the people start flocking in, escape!!! Lastly, have a few drinks at your place before you go. I prefer a nice light buzz before I arrive to a bar. Is that cheap of me??? :-/
