by Mimi T. on I love Ruby Skye! I first found out about them when I was 20 and living in LA for the summer and had signed up for the Spundae email list, and dreamed of going to Ruby Skye for years. My first time going to Ruby Skye was last year. Tickets are always pricy, but always worth it when you can afford the splurge since they bring in great djs in the trance/electronica/dance genre. I have seen Blank and Jones, ATB, bt and Darude spin here in the last year. I would go more often if I could afford it. I love living in a city where I can regulary see big names in trance. (I also saw Tiesto at Cow Palace in this past year. I'd love to see Armin and Ferry again when I get the chance... and ATB - that was I swear.. the best trance show I have been to) One of my favorite things about Ruby Skye is that you can dance upstairs or downstairs. I prefer to dance downstairs right near the stage, but there are times when you just want to get away and then the upstairs is nice because you can dance near the railing/have your own space, and not be as hot or get as bumped into as often. There is also a back room near the bathrooms which is almost always empty. There is a tv screen in there of the dj so you could dance in there if you wanted to. It's quiter in there than in the rest of the club, but I don't really see the point in dancing there myself. It would be a good place to go if you need a break but don't want to leave all the action behind. 2 of the 4 times I have been to Ruby Skye I went alone and I still managed to have lots of fun. (Then again music like that which is spun by ATB gives me on a natural high.) The one thing I don't get is the go-go dancers. I have long had a not so secret dream of being a go-go dancer. It always looks like such fun - you get paid to dance, depending on the club you get tips, but no one can touch you, and sometimes you get body guards. I often feel like I could do a better job than the RS go-go dancers. Do they tell the dancers to do those weird moves? And also why do they come out so sporadically? Does anyone know? I can't comment on the drinks since I've never bought a drink at Ruby Skye. I do think it is interesting how some nights they will give water away for free at the bar, and other nights they make yoy pay $4 for a fancy water bottle at a separate table. Also, some nights they have coat checks and other nights they do not, so you may not always have a place to stash your coat in the winter. I'm recovering for a knee injury right now, but I look forward to going back to Ruby Skye and dancing for hours on end (once I start dancing I do not stop) when I am better.
by Olivia Saviano on OMG We go out to high end restaurants from the suburbs 2x month, This will be easy, not happening again here. The Setting is nice maybe in the main room, but the secondary rooms. felt like we were in a closet. Another couple pitched a fit to be seated in the main room, we should have also. Dress code is all over the place, as a coat tie we were the exceptions. Wait staff all seemed disinterested in our service, Never had to ask for Bernaise sauce to be warm, as the wait staff asked me after serving it ice cold. The front of house staff seemed very busy catering to the local clientele. The place has an old feeling, and tired steak menu. Let me say there are bettter choices to drop $200 for two while craving a great steak experience., This would not be one.
