I had a HORRIBLE experience from BEGINNING to END. After leaving dinner at this amazing Mexican restaurant right next door, my date and I decided to hop over to check this place out. We arrived around 10:30pm hoping to beat the crazy Saturday night line. Well, that wasn't a problem because there was NO LINE. And when I say no line, I mean there wasn't even 1 person waiting to get in. The only people that were in front were about 4 big bouncers all in suits, 2 or 3 promoters, and a couple women with clip boards. Bad sign already. For a second we thought maybe we should wait before going in and maybe hang out somewhere else for a bit for it to pick up, but since we were already there, we decided it'll be fine to get a cocktail and wait inside. Well, guess again.... After ignoring us for a few minutes, they told us we can wait in line. It didn't matter that we knew someone and we were invited to come, they had us stand out there for another 10 minutes. Yeah... I get it, make people wait outside so we can create a line to make the place look busy, but it was so embarrassing because we were the ONLY 2 PEOPLE in line. Finally, someone retrieved us and we went inside. The decor is great, the cocktail waitresses are beautiful, but I can tell the place still needed help with promotions because it was only at 15% capacity at close to 11pm. I walked around, and found a spot to wait for the place to fill up. I sat by the back bar and noticed a number people smoking. Not just one or two, but like a lot were lighting up. GROSS! That's sooo 10 years ago?!? I was confused. I looked up and realized that the ceilings were slightly vaulted and there was a 1ft space of sky. What?!? So add a hole in the ceiling and all of the sudden it's an outdoor area for smokers. It was horrible. So then me and my date decide to go back to the front area where, I guess, is the non smoking section. THIS IS WHERE IT GETS REALLY GOOD!!! After a few minutes I notice a few girls dancing, so I decide it's not too early to get my groove on and join them. So I'm dancing in this tiny dance floor along with 3 other people (everyone else is still chatting, talking, drinking, not much going on yet). All of the sudden I feel someone push up against me on my back side. At first I thought it was an accident, but instead of apologizing or even moving, he just stood there. I stopped dancing for a second, turned around, and noticed his back to me, and he's still up on me. So I put my arms up and shrugged him off, and continued dancing with the girls. Suddenly, he comes around me, puts his finger in my face and says, " I saw what you did. I'm gonna get you kicked out of here!" I was in shock. I just looked at him confused and he says, "You elbowed me in the back!" I was in total shock. What Dude gets that AGRO that quickly at a 5'5" female over a bump on the dance floor? "Whoa... wait, you bumped into me MF'er. I don't know what you're talking about!" He says, "OK" and walks away. Weird, right? Whatever, so I start dancing again and 5 seconds later security has my arm and says, "Miss, you need to come with me" "What? Why?" "You just need to come with me" "Wait, where are you taking me" "You need to go outside" "What happened? Why" Passes me off to another security guard. "Miss you need to go outside" "My date is inside and my purse is inside" "We'll figure it out outside" "Okay, fine, but why are you doing this?" "They said you were harassing the staff" "What? What staff?" "Just wait outside the rope please" I stand there, and my date comes outside. After talking with my date and a couple of the security guards (who can tell that I'm not drunk or belligerent or deserving of getting kicked out of a night club), I find one who saw the whole thing go down. He tells me, he's sorry, I can't come back in. It wasn't my fault. It's just he's the owner of the night club. SOO??? I still don't understand the ego trip... Then he tells me he's on a date, and he's probably just trying to impress the girl! OOOooooh! Now I get it! At this point it was now about 11:30pm when I left. The club was at 45% capacity, and there were about 8 people in line. This was Saturday night. For an owner of a night club, you'd think you'd have more business sense than to treat your guests of your growing establishment like TRASH just because of your huge ego.

I was really surprised the first time i went to a show at Bimbos. It was dark, alluring, comfy, and very very intimate. I almost felt like the artist was singing to me, in front of me, and as if I were the only person in the room. Bimbos is small but seems spacious probably because they have a lot of space between tables and a lack there of. But being the die hard core fan I am, I get in line early to have my pick of spots. And I was able to get a table, up front, up close and personal. *Sigh. Fast forward to the second show I saw at Bimbos. It was a stand up show. And the artist came out late. Like 2 hours late. I was able to snag seats in the back behind the guy who controls the lights and sounds. These are not the best seats in the house but when you don't want to be sandwiched amongst drunk fans, it is your only choice. Especially when 1/2 the tables are marked "Reserved" and the people who are supposed to fill these tables never even show up. Nonetheless, for ticket prices under $50, going to a show at Bimbos is worth more than any concert you could pay for at Slims or the Fillmore. A concert at Bimbos is not just a show. It's an evening. It's an event. There's a stupid rule of 2 drink minimum but still there is nothing stuffy about this club. It's casual and it's relaxed. Even the artists are care free and down to earth. I remember standing in line as Duncan Sheik pulled up to the front with his band in his Scooby Doo van unshaven and in slippers. Too funny. And though late to the stage, Corinne Bailey Rae kept thanking the crowd for being there. She strummed her guitar and sang her sweet lyrics to the crowd. No matter who you come to see, a show at Bimbos is a guaranteed good time. Dim lights, your favorite artist, friends, coffee and booze... I highly recommend it.
