by Chadwick M. on Delicious cocktails in a dark, laid back, stylish atmosphere. Friendly, attentive and professional staff. Eclectic djs play mostly vintage jams have not disappointed to date. And they kept the same logo/neon signage from the original Koko. Other than that, everything feels new/different/better. Good decisions all around!
by Marcel Beazer on Great addition to the center of Austin. In the Allandale-Crestview area, we needed this: a casual-to-upscale eatery meets sports bar. My wife and I eat there every ten days or so, and the service, food and atmosphere is perfect to unwind, catch a game or enjoy a nice glass fo wine. The calamari is among the best in Austin, and we've had the sliders (tenderloin), ahi tuna burger, Allandale salad and scallops. Everything has been excellent!
by Garfield Villanova on I finally visited this Six Feet Under although "this" means the new location for the one on Memorial (right next to the old one). We were going to the Oakland Cemetery Tour and it made sense to stop here for drinks and food before the tour. Everyone seemed to have that same idea so it was quite crowded but the staff handled the crowds pretty well and we were able to score a makeshift large table/bar seats/ledge with stools sort of combination spot. It was fine. Our server was very friendly and we received drinks and appetizers very quickly, although they did try to give us someone else's food several times. Also, we had 8 people and I ordered my food last but then it came out a bout 15 minutes before anyone else's did which was awkward with all my friends glowering at me as I ate my food so that it didn't get completely cold. Overall, the staff was very friendly and they seemed to be really working to make things go right. The food is rather blah to me. I don't eat burgers so I can't speak to them although I do understand that they are quite good here. There is a nice assortment of fried foods and I do like the fried green tomatoes, although they need some salt, and the other fried foods seem perfectly acceptable to me but not earth shattering. We had the rat toes, zucchini fries, onion rings and fries. Actually, the onion rings were pretty good although they didn't hold their shape. I ordered a three veggie plate and clam chowder for my meal. The clam chowder was extremely thick and a bit starchy, not creamy at all. It needed a lot of salt and pepper, too. I wouldn't recommend it. The veggie plate was a healthier option and I enjoyed the side salad with house cucumber-wasabi dressing and the asparagus. The sautéed spinach was decidedly bland and not flavorful. I would not recommend that, either. The space is lovely. It's really big and bright and open, and makes good use of the old structural features in the building. They were having plumbing issues so the women were using the men's room and the men were using port-a-potties. This gave me the chance to check out the men's room and it was really, really nice. Are all men's rooms this nice? I would return but probably only if it's convenient and not as a destination of my choice.
