On a recent trip to San Francisco, my group met up for lunch with a friend from high school that I hadn't seen in years. After deciding that our time together was too short at lunch, she told us to meet her at Martuni's to start off our night on the town. Maybe I just visited this place on an "off" night, not that the crowd was small by any means, but I didn't get a great vibe here. There was only one waiter running drinks from the bar and he was on the rather portly side. Now this isn't an issue for me because I'm not exactly anorexic, but when his delivering drinks to tables is causing him to spill a bit of every cocktail on me as I'm waiting for a bartender to have a free moment, I get a little cranky...I was wearing suede pumps mind you. The waiter never really apologized, but rather got kind of gruff with me like it was my fault in a packed bar that I was in his way when he turned from the bar. The drinks were creative, but kind of pricey for what you get. I had a pineapple martini that was quite delicious, nice and strong, and hit the spot, but really that was about all that I found to be decent about this place. The karaoke was alright to watch, not all that great to listen to even if it's a live pianist that plays as you sing along...maybe staying for a few more overpriced cocktails would have made my stay more enjoyable?

I have clubbed in Las Vegas, New York, San Francisco, Reno, LA, and Washington DC. BOOTIE IS MY FAVORITE! The house band, Smash Up Derby, is FANTASTIC. They rock the house! Bootie serves food, has reasonable drinks, and is free before 10pm. It's the BEST club!

I went to NOISE POP at Cafe Du Nord last weekend and it was pretty amazing. The place is wonderful. Feels cool. Looks cool. Good music. Yeah, yeah, yeah. My only issue with Cafe Du Nord is the bar area. The majority of the people working at the bar are total douche bags. The first lady I had to deal with was really snobby and just plain unfriendly. And then the second lady. Holy shit. She forced my friend to keep her tab open. Listen lady, my friends and I usually leave tabs open, but that was a seriously rare occasion where we were just having one drink. Once this bitch was able to intimidate my friend into keeping her tab open, she asked her what her phone number was just in case we left without closing the tab. When my friend started to give her her number, she frowned at her and gave her a notepad and coldly said, "Um, I'm not writing it down for you." WTF? Psycho. I don't care how much you hate your life, you can't act like that, especially if you live off of tips. It's just illogical.
