by Matt K. on Damn! This place is fun! When my friend first suggested that we go to the Frying Pan, I thought to myself "Where is that in relation to Houston and Broadway?" Not close at all apparently. However I sucked up my fears and headed above 14th street for a much needed change. As soon as I found out this place was actually a boat, that nearly made up for me having to cross the L train barrier. As I stepped on the boat I saw tables full of buckets with Corona in them (a good start) and table and chairs places haphazardly on the different levels of the deck. Finding a table was pretty easy, and we spent the better part of the sunny afternoon bobbing at the dock, watching the river, and drinking into the sunset. But don't think that this is some magical place, somehow removed from the NYC price inflation. Food and drinks can be very expensive. Those buckets of beer turned out to be 35 bucks a piece with food falling into the "pricey to expensive" category. Bartenders were friendly and quick and it never seemed to be a terrible line at the bar......just painful when you sign that credit card receipt. Overall the place is cool (Venture down into the hull of the boat and do some drunken exploring) and even though you pay a little bit more there, it's at least in the version of liquor and not a cover charge (I've never met a cover charge I've liked). So put on your sea legs (short shorts), grab your compass (ray bans) and gather your nerve (Pre-beverage consumption) and spend an afternoon on the high seas. Maybe Sully will do a fly by for ya.

Based on some of the hype over this place I was actually expecting something "different" but this is really just another generic nightclub. Pro's - it's a nice space Con's - the staff, at least working the back room were unpleasant overpriced bottle service (you get nickel and dimed for the mixers) rude door staff average music
