Don't be fooled by the Sex and the City influence and the trendy decor.  The food sucks.  There is no better way to say it.   $14 for lo mein served on a fancy plate?  Say what? I wouldn't be surprised if they added moo goo gai pan to their menu soon.  What is moo goo gai pan anyway?  I'm Chinese and I don't even know.

Woo! I had an awesome time at the Mezzanine a few months back and JUST now got around to rateclubsing it. I had to think of exactly how to put my enthusiasm for this concert venue into words! My GF and I had such a great time. We had gone to see Vampire Weekend for the pre-nssn concert, opening was Chairlift, Audrye Sessions, and Cold War Kids. We had arrived early (like 1.5 hours early) and the doors were open, no line had formed so we just kinda prowled in like a couple of cats snooping thru a neighbors backyard. We walked in, nobody asked us for tickets? So we just kept going, thinking "ok at any moment, a security guard is going to hit me over the head with a mag flashlight and drag us both outta here". We kept walking and I heard the faint guitar riff from "M79", one of my favorite VW songs. Immediately we looked at each other and said "nooooo way!!!" and as we turned the corner, it was none other then the preppy, pastel wearing, afro groove centric Vampire Weekend themselves warming up! We were blown away. We stood in the dark corner, and enjoyed watching them tune up and roughly go through their entire set. it was great! the best part? Literally as soon as they finished, an older women who kind of looked like a cross between Bettie Page and a Lane Bryant employee approached us and barked "CAN I HELP YOU?", first thing that popped into my head was "Yeah, can i get a heineken and she'll have a cran and vodka" but the clarity and dephth of her frown lines quickly told me that either she wasnt happy we were in there before the show started or she needs to switch up her anti aging gel. My GF and I knew we already scored more then we could possibly have imagined by getting a little pre-show, so we just kinda smiled at each other and said "no, we're good". After that, the women quickly hustled us into an already forming line outside. Upon arriving outside, we hopped into a line just as soon as we could start checking the time wondering when they would let us (back) in. A white econoline van pulls up and clumsily works into a small parallel parking position right in front of the venue. My GF and I both eye each other with that "who do these guys think they are" kinda look, and just as my girlfriend verbalized the glance, a think black rimmed glasses kid in front of us whips his head around and boasts "Thats the singer from Cold War Kids!". She said "oh.." but she was thinking "NOOOOO WAY!!!!" The band hopped out of the van, gave the Mezz' a once over and it was obvious from their faces that they were thinking "i thought it would be bigger?" They quickly rushed in and because we were so close to the front of the line, we were treated to their tune up session as well. double score! The bar was easily accessible and I was sure to give good tips so the bartender remembered my mug after the show gets into full swing. Over all the audio was great, chairlift had a little problems with the sound and stopped the show in the middle to "check, check, 1, 2, check, check" but it sounded fine to me? Audrye Sessions rocked it! Their audio was alittle muffled but they still sounded great. The Venue is small, but not TOO small. My GF and I were right up front and moshing was minimal. Who moshes to vampire weekend anyway? apparently 4 people do. Another plus was the Red Stripe, any bar that serves Red Stripes automatically gets an extra star, so really, it's 3 stars +1 for Red Stripe. Over all we both had a great night and it was a sweet concert! Next time an act I like is in town AND at the Mezzanine, I'll be sure not to miss it!

this place is cute ... came here on a fri night and it's so packed ... had to wait like 30 min by the bar til our table was ready ... which wasn't so bad ... Decor: I like the area by the bar ... and the seating here is kinda cute .... Ambiance: Trendy Service: Good we had the lychee soju and watermelon soju ... and the lychee soju is sooo good ... but the watermelon .. ewww! ... o and i love how the soju botles have crushed iced on it to keep the soju cold w/o diluting the soju ... and we had other drinks so i guess we drank so much that we got a fruit platter on the house ^^ .. lol
