by Alonzo Wai on I waited to visit Cover3 a few times before writing a review. My first visit started off rough. It was during basketball season, and I think they had just recently opened. The hostess seemed confused and flustered. There were three of us, and we were all wearing our UT gear. I thought it was a little obvious we were their to watch the UT game, but she sat us at the one table outside where you couldn't see the TV. Also, it was hotter than the surface of the sun at that time, and she didn't ask if we wanted to sit inside, outside or first available. She just sat us outside. Then when we said we'd rather wait for another table to open up, she seemed annoyed and confused. Finally we got seated at an indoor table, opened the menu, and Yikes! The prices were more than you'd expect from a sports bar. We ordered some appetizers to split, and when the food came out, our experience started to turn around. The food was delish! The calamari was unique (in a good way), the tuna was tasty, and the sliders.... oh, the sliders were so good! I'm a big fan of horseradish, and the meat was really tender. I've gone a few more times, and they seem to have worked out any service kinks. I wasn't ready to write a review yet because I felt like it was still a place with an identity crisis. Is it a sports bar? Is it a nice restaurant? Is it a nighttime hot spot lounge? A little of each? So last night, I finally figured out the right occasion to visit Cover3. It's perfect for when you kind of want to watch a game, but don't need to follow every second of it. I don't really care about baseball unless the Astros are playing, but I'd like to see who wins the World Series. It was nice to have a good glass of wine, seared tuna on the Cover3 salad (yum!), and then just have the game on in the background. Overall, it's nice to have a place like this - whatever it is - on the North side of town.
by Angela H. on I love this gallery so much - not only do they host rad parties such as, Club 1994, and Barracuda - they also have really great exhibits that change monthly. The Exodus black and white photo collection that's up right now is friggen' amazing. Some insane shots to see. On the last Tuesday of every month, 111 Minna host Sketch Tuesday, where local artists and art fans alike come to hangout, have some drinks, listen to music and draw. You then are invited to pin your creations on the flats provided, and sell them for whatever low cost you think is reasonable. It's seriously the most interactive, creative and welcoming event I've been to in a long time. If you haven't yet been to this gallery/nightclub, do yourself a favor and check it out. All the crew who work there totally rule as well. Stay for a drink...or 7!
