This place offers you no reward or enrichment. The bartenders cannot muster the talent to keep their scally caps straight nevermind tend their inferior bar. The DJ plays an uninspired list that puts the iTunes shuffle on your 13-year old cousin's computer to shame. The dance floor is littered with broken glass that will foreshadow the corrupted nature of whomever you dance with. The poles on the dance floor are not for climbing. F-off middlsex!

This place is beautiful, fun, and a great place to drink and chill with friends. My friend Wendy C. took me here on a recent visit to LA, and I loved the experience! This is most definitely one of those places where it's about the experience. It reminds me of other speakeasy-themed places up in the Bay Area, like Bourbon and Branch. It's ornately decorated, with dark woods, elaborate chandeliers - it's just brimming with elegant details, whisking you away to the Jazz Age, complete with the music. We came here on a Thursday night, when they have a great Happy Hour special from 5-7pm. Upon entrance, you get a coupon that allows you to buy a drink for $1! And then, I think all other cocktails are apparently 45% off (although, we had to pay full price for our second round that night for some reason). This is a very good deal because this is one of those places that charges like $13/drink, so $1 is a steal. The drinks were STRONG and DELICIOUS. I got a gin fizz and a brass flower, both of which were very well-made, well-mixed, tasty, and had super out-of-control amounts of alcohol. Our bartender took such care with making the drinks too. For my second drink, he made it, tried it, decided that it was off, and then started making it all over again. Wow. It was perfection the second time around. Loved it. The place was pretty full, but there are little tables and chairs around with "reserved" cards on them, and you can usually sit in those even if you don't have reservations. A hostess will just come by and politely give you a heads up that other people are coming later, which is super nice of them. Also, we got to eat free oysters! We were walking around, examining this gorgeous space, and this French oyster man eyed us as we were turning a corner. When we reached him, he gave each of us an oyster. It was really awesome because he confirmed all my stereotypes of French people, telling us that "ooo, eating ze oyster eez like keeesing ze ocean!" And, then he showed us how to crack open an oyster with this great line, "you have to be very gentle when opening ze oyster, treat eet like a woman! Gentle! Do not force it!" Awesome. Gorgeous interior + Fabulous drinks + Super happy deals on Thursdays + Free oysters = Loves it, will be back for more!
