by Jeff J. on 4.5 I am amazed anyone can give the Varsity anything less than 3 stars. You get exactly what you order. Everything they offer is solid. I love their hot dog chili and slaw. The only thing I will not order there is bacon. It's limp and fatty. Overall, a must do before or after a ball game.
by Gail Bushong on I was surprised this club was actually adjacent to the Hollywood and Highland complex since the Highlands is already there. As for the club itself. A lot larger than I originally thought. I spent the first hour on the ground floor and thought, 'Oh, another small Hollywood club'. Turns out there's an entire upstairs area I totally ignored. Oops! It's much larger but it's definitely not a dance club. The drinks are overpriced ($12.50) and as usual, really watered down. No surprise there. Beer selection is weak and entirely bottles. Decor is great so that's a plus. I personally prefer the Highlands although I'm not a fan of either club.
by Virgilio Mcmullin on The mojitos here are pretty good and it can be fun watch people stuck in rush hour. The ambiance is a bit funny though. I came here with a few friends one afternoon after convincing them that it was only a short walk from my apartment. Thirty minutes later we were sweaty and seeking some Cubano refreshment. The host asked us if we had a reservation. Seeing how it was 4:00 in the afternoon, the U.S. being in a financial apocolyse and the parking lot barren, I giggled and said no. He gave us a hard wince like one of the bus boys behind him had goosed him. He pretended to touch the calculator and few times and moved around the scheduling book. Then with great theatrics he found someone to lead us to a table. To our utter amazement the whole dining room was empty. That was the most exciting part of the experience. The duck fat french fries were pretty tasty, especially the BBQ sauce (and I'm not usually a fan). The sliders were eeh. Probably a nice place to come for drinks with a group of friends- you might want to call first unless you like buildup and suspense.
