White Rabbit Saturdays and the stand up comedy show before the music gets going is my favorite way to spend Saturday night. The drinks are a good deal (discounted beer and vodka...can't remember details but nothing I had was more than 5 dollars per drink) and the music after the comedy show is great. It's not your typical nightclub... so the place doesn't get sweaty or overcrowded. You can still hear the tunes from the bar if you aren't interested in dancing theres a place for you. There is a very nice patio in the front of the hotel with ample seating and myst system. It's like a perfect hybrid of nightclub/lounge/everyone-knows-your-name bar. Something for everyone.

Came to Cafe Du Nord last Thursday to catch a night of the SF Bluegrass and Old Time Festival. Wasn't too keen on the idea of of shelling out 15 bucks for a show, but had heard good things about the acts and venue. First off: totally worth it. As soon as you enter the establishment, and walk down the large staircase, the place opens up before you. Great atmosphere in both the back, with seating, a pool table, and the bar, plus the front where they have a cozy stage (with seating along the sides) and a fairly big central dance floor. Didn't try the grub - though it smelled and looked solid, but they had a pretty strong beer selection, and a number of good whiskeys that complemented the Kentucky Bluegrass on stage. The place was somehow both big enough, but intimate enough, to really set the right vibe, and the people in attendance were quality. Can't wait to check out another show again. (FYI: Cowlicks, Lady A and Her Heel Draggers, Mad Cow String Band, and the Whiskey Richards all rocked it. Never heard of 'em before, but I wouldn't mind seeing 'em again.)
