by Ezra Rodiquez on If you are looking for dancing this places is ok. It has two stories, but I think the top is VIP. I have been here for a couple of charity events. Never been on a regular night or on a weekend so not sure what the environment is normally like.
by Natasha S. on I had been going to the Cafe for quite a long time, primarily out of convenience. I had friends that either worked there, or next door and it just became our official go to spot. After a while, they closed it down for renovations and we started to venture out going to other clubs. I completely forgot about it until one day we walked by and saw that it had JUST reopened. We thought hey why not take a look... why did the once free entrance or $5 cover become $15? It was ridiculous but I was so curious so we gave it a try. We walked in and immediately I saw the difference. It had been renovated and looked MUCH MUCH better. The crowd was different, and the worst of all the bartenders I once had grown to love were no longer there. After that, I gave it a couple more tries and wasn't impressed. The music really sucked, and the bartenders were stingy. I wouldn't come back here again.
by Manual Dainack on Contrary to popular hipster opinion, not all great art comes from suburban alienation. Nor is it always dreary. Sometimes, great art takes the form of a fabulous pianist explaining the history of 1930s theatre while singing Ira Gershwin lyrics at the top of his lungs. (I'm thinking of Mark Nadler, who performed here Sunday.) Yes, for some urban-sophisticate entertainment, come on over to this tourist-district hotel's club. The music is a blend of personal narrative, sweet singing, noir-era style and jazz. It's called cabaret music, and isn't just for smart gay men and New Yorkers any more. The place itself is swank, with good sound and food from Anzu for sale. On the mini-minus side, the Rrazz doesn't always do cabaret music and when it doesn't, I don't care for it. And as for the name, unless you're Tony the Tiger or Scooby-Doo, you'll only embarrass yourself by telling friends where you're headed. Say "the club at the Hotel Nikko" instead.
