Knowing not enough about Mexican food and less about Austin I had some trepidations about my lunch plans during a recent visit. My first instinct was to try the hotel restaurant but a couple of locals attending with me suggested El Sol. Overall evaluation - pretty good. We were seated promptly and our orders came to us in a reasonable amount of time. I got the chalupas del sol - beans over chicken, lettuce, tomato and cheddar atop tortillas. Portions were respectably sized and my selection was fresh and tender all around. Nobody rushed us, and the waitstaff was reasonably attentive without hovering. I'm not sure how it is when the kids are back in school or when the university has a major event going on, but the place wasn't too crowded, a fact that probably allowed them to spend more time on us. Prices were overall very reasonable and no one in my party voiced any complaints about the meal. I'm planning to try El Sol the next time I'm in Austin.

After years of dodging going to this place thinking "its on the pier and kind of part of chelsea piers so it must be cheesy," I ended up here last night and was severely impressed. It's gigantic, its on the water, there are tons of tables to sit at and the drinks are well priced ($6 for a gin and tonic). Totally low key and extremely fun.

One of the more well known night spots in the city and also a bit overrated. From the lines outside and everyone telling me it's difficult to get into this place, I was expecting something spectacular when I went inside. However, It's basically just an average club. Not to say it's not a fun place to hang out for a night, but it doesn't really live up to all the hype.
