I met the lovely Katie W for dinner here last night, and forgot to check in, dangit. Ah well, I'll be back, I'm sure, at some point. The 3 star average is dead on, as this place is the definition of OK. The vibe is nice, I like the big patio, but whoooaaa a disco ball just came on in the middle of our dinner. Yes, a giant, legit, spinning disco ball. Now, I love me a good disco ball, so I'll let it slide, but I'll admit it was kind of weird to nosh on tacos in the glimmering light. I felt like rollerskating to some slow jams instead. The food was good: Katie and I both went with the chicken soup and two tacos. I was thankful the waitress recommended the half bowl of soup as it was heartier than most soups of this ilk I've had before. Lots of rice and tomatoes, but a little stingy on the avocado. Still, quite tasty and I'd order it again. The two tacos I had were also very good: the fried shrimp (although I would have preferred grilled) and the pulled pork. Both good sized with interesting flavors: a lot better than some of the other "upscale" tacos I've had around town, but I still prefer Taqueria del Sol. The black beans rocked my socks off, but I am admittedly a black bean-aholic so that's not really saying much. The chips and salsa were mighty sad: the chips tasted stale and the salsa was pretty flavorless. But hey, they were free, so instead of inhaling hundreds of them I probably just put down 47. It's in my 'hood, so I'd likely come back for a margarita (even though I was a good girl and didn't try one this time) or a quick taco, but it's not something I'd seek out.

I have to cook this one while the ingredients are still "fresh". While I might return here to get the official scoop on HH someday, I would skip this joint as a dinner destination. With precious time ticking before the Cirque show last night, we were pressed due to work obligations to make a snap choice to grab a bite before the show. The proximity of this place made it easy, fifty paces from the north entrance to http://Jobing.com arena. When I probed about beer choices as it was happy hour, I was told it was only for bud, bud light, bud light lime, bud caffeinated, bud ass crack...you get the picture. It's a faux Irish pub for fooks sake, what the hell? Anywhoo, ordered up a couple of Smithwick's and turns out they were only three bucks a pint. I am thinking that our server was not up to speed on what the HH includes. On to the food. Ordered a burger medium rare and the fish and chips. The burger came out well done, fries not remotely hot. Fish and chips had to be the worst I have ever put a tongue to. Over battered somewhere far far away from here,no doubt frozen and hard fried on sight. They resembled bubble gum cigars in shape, and were roughly fifty percent batter. The fish itself if you could locate it had that Gorton's of Gloucester flavor. Apple slaw was void of any apple or slaw flavor, scary. If not pressed for time both of these items would have been returned. May have requested another burger if they could cook it properly, but the fish would have been thrown back in favor of something else. The service was sporadic, with several runners showing up with food that was not ordered as well as condiments that were not requested. Our server was overbearing in questioning how things were. No less than six times in about a half an hour after food was dropped with trepidation in their voice, which tells me they get lots of complaints. Also witnessed a floor manager busy working damage control on several other tables.
