by Jamie Gunlock on Went here last week for DJ Hearthrob, which some of my friends had been to before. We arrived at the door and were told there was a cover charge. Weird, though, because there hadn't been a cover charge other times my friends went, and the website specifically said "NO COVER." I even pulled it up on my phone but the door guy refused to let us in without paying cover. Cover charge? On a Tuesday? GFY. Nonetheless, we ended up coming back, paying the cover because other friends had since arrived and entered, and went in. I've been here before on other nights, but it was like stepping back into a Boy George music video. Only worse. I felt like people were trying too hard to bring back the New Romantic movement of 80s London... weird face makeup, strange dresses with unexpected tutus, people wearing sweaters as pants, that sort of thing... The attititude just seemed so forced, moreso incongruous with the music (which was actually pretty good), that I had to leave. Maybe I'd go back, but I'd definitely have to prepare for my next visit by securing vinyl sparkle pants, a mesh top, and plenty of eyeliner. Then again maybe I'll just check out a different night here.
by Belinda S. on Yes, crowd in the back is pretty ghetto. (I think that's the hip hop room). Luckily there are two front rooms. One with trance that no one dances to, and another room to the side to lounge around in. The bathrooms are way too small though for that capacity.
