Probably the best restaurant on the Dyckman Street "restaurant row" west of Broadway. It's fun, the menu has variety, and the sangria is probably some of the best you can find up here. (Though I think Guadalupe's is the absolute best!) To me the food seems overpriced, so I usually order one of their personal pizzas as my entree and I'm good to go. Much of the menu I'd call "upscale Dominican", not a bad thing at all. I really enjoy the appetizer of plantains stuffed with fish, it's a tasty snack to share. The ambiance is a little sexy but it's versatile enough to come with a group of friends as well as a date. When it warm they have sidewalk seating and you can count on pretty much every table enjoying a pitcher of their sangria. Definitely have it if you're here! Haven't been for brunch but from what it sounds like based on everyone else's review, it seems like you can't go wrong. Late at night and on weekends, much like many places around here, it turns into a clubby scene.

4 drinks: $48 dumplings: $12 fish: $36 chicken: $24 2 people having a great meal and then making sweet, succulent love: priceless Yes this place is expensive, but the atmosphere, food, service, and intercourse made up for it. We went friday night with a 6:30pm reservation. We were seated right away (next to the buddah). Started off with the pork pot stickers... excellent. Shared the sea bass and Kung Pao. Two excellent dishes. I've had a lot of bass in my day and this was probably top 4 (and yes it does melt in your mouth). Bottom line: Money can buy happiness. Highly recommended.

This only gets two stars because I didn't end up going in, met a group of awesome people who thought this place totally sucked and left, and went someplace better. The guy at the door? Le grande douche if I ever saw one. A greasy hot mess, he refused to offer the common decency to say "Hey guess what, you're not getting in..." as everybody else around us was gradually ushered in. My friend had to ask what was going on, and we got some vague, lame-ass answer. Not to be a snob, but I can confidently say that there was a lot of fug heading in there, and I am certainly not. Apparently if you wear a trendy Panama hat you can also get in quite easily. Maybe if I had gotten in and swigged down a couple of those $18 drinks I've been hearing about, I might have given them a couple more stars...NOT. We instantly made some new friends and went around the corner to Park. Danced the night away in a gorgeous locale, and ended up spending the remainder of our NYC long weekend hanging out with them. If anything, I should thank 1Oak for being such a piece of shit because it made me new friends :)
