You wanna hear great hip hop from the 80's and beyond; dance all night and bogle pump to the ground? Then come here. If you can't handle sweaty tight spaces then walk on by..... Oh and even if you end up meeting a really awkward date here. You can guarantee that you'll have a good time via the music.

MJQ is like a dive club that you wouldn't be ashamed to take a prissy girlfriend to. on wednesday nights they play 80's music/indie gems/respectable pop in one room, funk/soul/respectable hip hop in the other. its free to get in and there is usually a twentysomething mixed crowd in attendance. easily the best night to attend. on fridays and saturdays they play mostly respectable hip hop/dancehall/rnb. there is a $5 cover (i think). its fun stuff as well, if you're into the music. i dont know what its like on the other nights, but i hear its fairly dead. if its your first time at MJQ, i implore you to pause for a second before walking in so you can admire its 'unique' entrance. if you walked by this same entrance during the day it would look like an abandoned tool shed. you'd logically assume that there no possible way a fully sized legally sanctioned dance club could lay behind its doors (if you can call a raggedy tin garage style door, a door). as for the club itself, its comprised of two fairly large rooms (one bigger then the other) both with a moderate amount of seating and large dance areas (you'll likely end up standing/dancing the whole time). they serve reasonably priced drinks (i'd stick with beer/cider) and getting said drink doesn't take too long. as for cons: its often hot as hell in there there and everyone seems to chain smoke, they also only take cash. all in all, MJQ is a cool place to hang out if you've been drinking. heavily.

Just returned from the pre-opening, which was spectacular. Despite a capacity crowd, the ambiance, service and cuisine were top-notch. Darien (Vino Venue, District) and Josh (Ruby Skye, Slide) at the bar were exceptionally thoughtful and attentive. Thanks for reinventing a classic!
