by Ryan G. on I couldn't tell you what I was more impressed with, the food or the decore! Each time I visit Café Lift, it has become a personal requirement to order a bowl of Crab Bisque, even on a hot day. Lift offers a wide variety of delicious menu items that don't require "heavy lifting" - everything is perfectly portioned and flavored. The local art sold in the café ties in perfectly with the rough but clean industrial design. It has a very, Tim Burton meets Tim Allen feel. In my eyes, a good restaurant worries just as much about the decoré as they do the menu. I'm even more happy to see the overall rating of this place from my fellow rateclubsers - this is a perfect example of looking for a highly rated place on rateclubs, taking a leap of faith and being extremelly satisfied. You won't be disappointed!
by Jacinto Bogg on I will start with the pros: A few of the courses were wonderful. When I was young, my father would go quail hunting, would come home and clean them, and then my mother would marinate them overnight, wrap in them bacon, and dad would grill them. The quail at Woodfire Grill was as good as if it were the quail from my memories (I wish I had more, it was a tiny "tasting" from the five course option). I also loved the little steamed oysters served between courses. It was fun to try the different dishes, and I really liked everything the chef chose to serve. Kevin! He was in the restaurant, cooking on the grill, greeting fans and restaurant guests, and generally being the friendly person you know and love from the show. Cons: We waited three weeks for a reservation, and then they were thirty minutes behind on seating us...not that big of a deal normally, but I expected more. Our servers (both for cocktail service and in the main dining room) seemed absolutely overwhelmed. Our server didn't even mention there was a wine paring option (but it seems that is what the table next to us did?) and generally seemed to have no clue about wine. While we were waiting to figure the wine situation out, a different server whisked out the first course to the five course tasting menu before we had chosen anything to drink with the food (my personal number one "crotchety old lady" pet peeves about restaurants is when you do not have the drink you want, but they bring your food). Summary: I feel bad saying this, I really do, but overall I was pretty disappointed. Not by the food, but the service issues. I just expected more (especially considering the price tag). Maybe I was just in a bad mood because we ate so late....But I believe I will wait for them to work out how to handle the crowds and come back in a few years.
by Colton Prose on Like the first guy said, a little higher prices in the airport of course, but the bbq is as good as the real store outside of Austin. If you're there for a layover or just can't make it to the real shop, stop by the airport one.
