I guess for my 100th review, I'll be what seems to be the 100th person to review this new burger "boutique" featuring Chef Richard Blais's culinary creations. First of all, what is up with the current fixation on calling everything a "boutique"? Like when I visited the Blush Lounge in Vegas, which billed itself as a "boutique" nightclub. I guess it's a way to let people know that you'll get something new, trendy and exciting in a somewhat small and cozy location. That's how I can sum up my lunch experience at Flip Burger Boutique: new, trendy and exciting. I'm not sure how long this restaurant will last, but I think it's a great new edition to Howell Mill in Atlanta's upper west side. The decor is plush, the atmosphere is loungey elegance and the food is pretty darn good. I tried the rBq, which was a perfectly cooked burger with pulled pork brisket on top with some cole slaw. It was amazing! I added a side of the vodka onion rings and was able to try the fries and fried rutabaga. All were very good especially the onion rings that I dipped in the chipotle-smoked mayonnaise. Service was pretty good for the place only being opened for a couple weeks. I was disappointed that I didn't get to try the sweet potato tots. The waiter explained that since many people were complaining about how long it was taking to get the sides, they decided to only offer certain things for dinner. I was also bummed that Chef Blais had already left on holiday break, so I wasn't able to meet him but we did get to chat it up with the owner who explained why he chose the location instead of somewhere in Midtown (for a free-standing building). But either way, I'll definitely be back to check out the evening crowd and some more burgers and a nitrogen milkshake -- the Shrimp Po Boyger and Krispy Kreme shake look really good! P.S. WARNING: Do not come here looking for massive burgers. They are like the size of two sliders put together with at least 1/4 pound of meat. If you are starving, you might want to order two burgers.. However, I found myself adequately full from a burger and a side.

From the outside it looks empty, quiet and nearing the end of its life. Inside, you are surrounded by neighborhood hipsters enjoying some really good ethiopian food. While the meat portions could have been more generous, I was won over by the unlimited veggie refills, ridiculous low cost for the amount of food ($10) and super friendly service. I think the lady serving us was the owner. She had the aura about her that this was her food and she wanted to share it. Thank you for doing that.

DuNord was the first place in SF I saw a live show, it holds a place in my heart.. It's tiny, alluring, dark, and fun. It's just a little unpretentious venue that you can drop by last minute on a friday night (granted the show isnt sold out). The calendar is packed mostly with local bands, but sometimes they house some of the big names. Also, they're great about scheduling foreign upcoming bands. I saw The Sounds here years ago- completely awesome...and bravo to them for hosting the Lovemakers 4 weeks in a row, all selling out! I love how the mood can change so much depending on what show you see & the crowd. As far as rocking out in concerned, you MUST go to the stage if you're a fan. Otherwise, it's impossible to see anything going on (especially sans-heels). Quite a bit of making out happens here, there's just something so magical about it...and there's good hair. The drinks are like any other small venue, and the bathroom situation sucks. Still, theres so much eye candy, that wandering & waiting around DuNord is a show in itself.
