by Dimitrios D. on In the "Pat's vs. Geno's" debate (which is pretty lame and generic, I might add), I will definitely side with Pat's. Is it because Pat's produces a quality cheesesteak that's superior to Geno's? No, not really. Rather, it's because Geno's has an obnoxious, borderline offensive approach to politics and social issues. A poster hanging in the front of the store gives one side of the Mumia Abu Jamal 'debate' (I offer no opinion in this review- in fact, I think cheesesteaks go down much easier without sociopolitical commentary shoved down my throat). Another much smaller sign warns patrons not to speak any other language besides English when ordering. And even the menu has ludicrous political connotation to it. You won't find "French" fries here- only "Freedom" fries are served. While the gimmick of a conservative Italian-American cheesesteak eatery in South Philly can be cool once, I don't think I'd go back again. And it's not just, because of the sociopolitical messages- it's the rude staff and the mediocre food.
by Joanie K. on It is SO hard to find a club with great music and strong drinks, but Home has it. I've only been once but it was a really great time. Not so into the $150 bar min but I think that was because I went with a crowd of guys. This club was the only place that had Tanqueray rangpur the first weekend it came out so that's a plus one in my book. The bartenders were really great- unfazed and was very quick with service. Another plus one. Not sure who the DJ was that night, but he was AMAZING. IF he played a top 40 hip hop song, it was mixed extremely well.
by Tory Py on Dragon Alley, the gay Asian night on Fridays, is pretty fun. The music was not that great -- poppy eurotrance downstairs and top 40 hip hop upstairs. However, the bartenders are hot and they pour good strong drinks.
