I agree that BarChi has a GREAT happy hour. We went last night, Sunday, when happy hour runs all day. Points for: - Atmosphere: very chic. I'm kind of uppity so I loved the lighted bar and modern decor. And I adore lounge music and they had that going on. - Service: spectacular. Quick and extremely friendly staff. - Rolls: pretty good. - Overall fish quality: in opposition to everyone else, I didn't think the sushi was that fresh. I definitely recommend this place for happy hour. I hope they make it...I understand that they're not very busy. It's a great location, though, and good competition for Maiko and Imperia.

Whoa nilly! My wife and I moved to Atlanta last sumer from New Jersey. Ever since, we have been lamenting the lack of good Italian food and cannoli here (see my review of Caffe Intermezzo). We went to Alfredo's last night and all I can say is that Atlanta has gotten a little better. This was an authentic Italian place, the kind you find all over the Northeast. The building is crummy (this is a good thing) (wood paneling, no windows, my grandmother's decor). The staff is into the food. Moreover, they know most of the people eating there and pretend to know the ones they don't. Now, let me get to the food. We ordered fried calamari and mozzarella caprese as appetizers. AWESOME. The fried calamari was as it should be - not too fried but not two chewy - just right. The fra diavolo sauce that came with it was great. The fresh mozza was good, too. Very, very fresh. I would have been happier if it had some more fresh basil on it, but it was great as it was. For entrees, my wife had the manicotti, and I had shrimp marinara. Both were great. The manicotti were a little too cheesey for my taste, but she loved them (I am not wild about manicotti to begin with). The shrimp marinara was as promised - mildly spicy, but not very. As places like this do, they cook the hell out of the shrimp. They could have gone a little easier on the shrimp, but, as I said, that is not this style of food. For dessert, we ordered, of course, cannoli - two to be precise (neither of would be willing to share with the other). They were great! The filling could have been creamier, but everyone has their own style, and this definitely constituted an authentic cannoli. The wine list is not superb, but you don't go to a place like this for an extensive wine list. I had two glasses of barbera, which were very good and reasonably priced at $7/glass. There seems to be ample parking. We got there kind of early and didn't have any trouble. There was also an attendant in the lot to help out. It definitely gets crowded. When we left around 8pm, there was a long line and it didn't seem to be moving. Get a reservation if you are going to a dinner on Friday! We will be going back often.
