by Ben B. on Attention to detail is what this place is all about. From the moment you open the door, you are transported into a much different (and cooler) place and time. A place where it's okay to order that 3rd (errr....4th) cocktail and a time where the pace slows down as to give the barmasters as much time as they need to mix the perfect concoction. Most of the furniture, fixtures, bar shelving, and even the beer spouts were all designed and created by hand by the designer-owner, according the back of the menu. If Moulin Rouge were refilmed here in Austin, it'd be filmed in this place. The revolving gallery featuring local artists on the walls is a nice touch as well. The attention to detail does not stop with the unique decor. It continues into the kitchen where meal after meal is expertly designed and prepared. The venison and grits appetizer present a hearty and good-for-the-soul deliciousness that's rare to find. The burger sports a lamb and goat patty that becomes one with the homemade bun and homemade mustard. For an extra $2, a perfectly poached egg will join in on the opus of flavor. Despite the cool decor and the the great food, the star of the Showroom is the cocktail. Fresh fruit, homemade bitters, hard to find liquors, a wide sampling of bourbons and whiskeys, unique flavor combinations, and hand-chopped ice cubes are all ingredients in a great cocktail. However, its the assembly of these ingredients by the expert, passionate, and knowledgeable bartenders that is the true asset. Every recipe - a mix of classic and original - is reproduced to precision in every drink. Truly a gem of an establishment for the East Side. I'll be back soon. TIP - This place gets packed on the weekends. For a better and more intimate experience, check it out during a weekday! Half price apps (including the venison & grits) until 7, too.
by Ramiro Stcyr on I really like this place. It's one of the few bars in Old City that you can go to without being surrounded by the sloppy South Jersey crowd. Good beer selection. Awesome space. No dancing on the bars (thank goodness Coyote Ugly was ousted from this spot). Wonderful pint glasses with Philebrities on them. Well decorated bathrooms. It meets all my criteria for a good bar.
