Believe the hype this place is good. The Toro is absurd in a great way, though the portion might leave you a little shell shocked. I would still order it a hundred times over. If you are dining, you know what you are getting yourself into. The decor is like being under the ocean and is very seductive. You don't go here if you are looking to dine and dash or fill your belly. Go here to impress your date, enjoy a quiet/fun experience. Did I mention, order the Toro!

I went here for my sister's birthday and I only got to enjoy the dining experience, so no idea how the clubbing went, but I'm pretty sure it was probably good. They seem like a really good place to throw a dinner and it's convenient since you can dance right after! It looks fancy schmancy as well and big baller. I'm considering throwing my birthday party there.....hmmmm...August 29, if you wanna show up..haha

Went to the Mayan for the first time to see Bloc Party. As a rule, I like to check out venues in person before I go to see music. Since I am from San Diego, this was not an option. However, looking at the website and reading reviews about the salsa dancing and lucha libre, I knew that things would be OK. As a venue for a concert, this place is really solid and a cool scene. There is ample parking and it is easy to find. With capacity of 1500 people, there is not really a bad seat in the house. The line situation was good, with separate general admission, will call and guest list lines, and security management was very good compared to other venues of this size. The sound quality here is excellent and sight lines are good from the floor and the balconies. The only thing that needs improvement is the bar situation. There is a bar on the floor, and on each balcony. Being an all ages show, the management decided that they would only serve booze on the top balcony, and you could not leave with booze. Further adding to this frustration was the fact that there were no wrist bands, so you had to show ID with every purchase. This made the line longer than it had to be and service slow. I am all about letting in all concert goers regardless of age, but with a majority of concert goers being over 21, we should not be disadvantaged. Put the 18 and up area on one of the balconies and let the masses who can drink do so. The under 21 crowd should be glad that they are in the show and all ages venues are more wide spread today than they were even 5 years ago. My advice to to pregame at one of the many awesome bars in the financial district, Seven Grand being at the top of the list. All in all though, a great venue for a concert, and I wish that there were more of them here.
