by Heather H. on I was lured in here by a show. It's a lovely space, really, it is. And the bartenders are actually pretty damn decent at what they do. But, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was standing in the bar of a Mandarin Oriental hotel. It had that hotel bar feel, someplace foreign. Maybe it was the Eurotrash? The doucheoisie? Not that hotel bars in Mandarin Orientals are bad things. I just wish I could have retreated to my room with an oversized, overplush king size bed and a plushy robe and slippers, or visited the lovely spa facilities. Instead, I had to take the train back to Bushwick. Sigh. So. Multiple stars for a damn fine negroni ($12), an easy drink-- like a martini-- that so many bartenders manage to screw up. Stars for prettiness. Depending on the night, and the other customers, you might have a very nice time here.
by Francis Merton on Hello, hello, hello! Is there any body in here? Ecco, Ecco, Ecco! Can you really impress me? I spent the better part of a year being stationed around Ecco "Chefs" at various functions like Serenbe Farms, Taste of this that and the other. And never really found the food that great. But how can you judge on off site events? So yes, Ecco hit the top of my list and I came packing some serious cash for a serious bill. The Squid is delicious, the pizza thingy sucks( I will send you a flat bread recipe), Piquillo peppers stuffed with short rib needs work, but all in all the small plates are solid. Entrees were simple but simply over cooked past being paid for. Three bottles of wine and two were on the "turn" F'''''K me I just paid my allowance for an average meal. I just feel I could cook everything I had for the first time, and cook it better, And I am willing to bet my $500 bill that Ecco won't except this challenge.
