It felt like walking into David Fincher's The Social Network. Sleek, dimly lit with well paced music that makes you feel like you're in a slow-motion party scene, The Edison is definitely where the cool kids come to hang out. While walking we actually walked up to an apartment complex with the address that rateclubs provided and the doorman in a very nice suit who joked around with us as we were pulling out our id's. Don't make our mistake, haha, The Edison is actually a couple steps down in the alley on the left. Surprisingly, no cover, and a very short line when we got there around 10:20 pm on a Friday night (the line did get crazy long when I came out to withdraw money at the bank around the corner so come early!). The bouncers made light conversation as they checked our id's and were very friendly. Upon walking in we found the Edison to be a lot larger than expected with a combination 20's industry & steampunk feel with a lot of projected obscure videos playing that are definite ice breakers. Everyone was dressed up which is completely refreshing. The men are all in suits or at the most casual, a button down with nice jeans and dress shoes so tell your fella's to bring out the big guns tonight. Ladies were mainly wearing dresses and heels although I did see the rare jean ensemble because ladies can always get away with going more casual then men can. The crowd is also relatively friendly. The bar was packed and I was looking at it with desperation since nothing seemed to be moving and a girl scooted over so I could squeeze in to order a drink. The drinks are relatively expensive but typical LA fare with a don julio with rockstar, and a stella artois costing 33 bucks. Although I suspect it came out to more because the bartender separated the rockstar into a separate cup when I requested it to be mixed. However, the possibility of a miscommunication is likely as the Edison has loud pulsating music that makes it hard to hear much at the bar. The smoking section is right by the entrance, up a flight of stairs (really for smokers? haha) and there is no bar nearby which is a bit disappointing. The Edison is perfect for a night on the town when you're looking to dress up and wind down.

I've eaten at Trudy's quite a few times and it's one of my favorite Austin restaurants. I always go for breakfast/brunch and the food and service are consistently excellent. All the locations are great, but I think the best is the one on 30th Street. My favorite thing about this restaurant is the originality of their specialties. Their Stuffed Avocado, Huevos Montulenos, and the Estufado are delicious. They seem to have a knack for turning regular ingredients into extraordinary dishes. Also, don't miss the chips and salsa which are flavorfully hot. I would probably name more of my favorite items but I can't seem to quit ordering the same few things. Their Bloody Mary's and Mimosas are also very good.
